hotel entrance by sinequanon This is an old caravanserai turned into hotel situated in the middle of the Stone Town, behind The Sultan's Palace and a short distance from the sea front. The rooms are basically furnished, all white, cool and very clean. Mosquito nets are a bonus. You can also share a room if you do not want to pay one on your own. It faces a small street and so there are no views of the island or the sea, but It is a good and cheap choice if you want to spend sometime in town. There is a restaurant at the top of the building that serves simple meals and breakfast with a view to the sea, but nothing really extraordinary. To my amazement the owner spoke a few sentences of Greek, since he had been a sailor in Greek ships before, and he was a Greek music fanatic. Not the kind of Greek music that I like but I did sent him a few cassettes with his favourite singers when I got back. I do not know if he got them since I have not had an answer back but it is very possible they were confiscated upon arrival. Gates to Paradise by Geisha_Girl Once we exited the chaotic streets of Stone Town, we embarked on a very relaxing and scenic drive toward the East Coast of the island. Once arriving to Bwejuu, we drove through the central part of the village (greeted by the locals as we went weaving our way through the rocky and stoney roadway)
At first you can be a bit disenchanted by the entrance of the Inn. Once you make your way past the cows parked in the front roadway, you enter into the Inn and are warmly greeted by the manager and staff of the guesthouse. The manager, Ali, was so happy to see us and very excited to show us each and every one of the 13 guest bungalows so that we can make our choice. He was extra courteous to our group and wanted to be sure we felt safe and happy during our stay. Once we saw the entrance to the white sand beaches, we had only one thing on our minds: Sun, Sand, and Surf! (okay, that was 3 things) We politely declined Ali's official tour of the bungalows and just grabbed the closest bungalow to us.....dropped off our bags......and got ourselves prepared for complete and utter relaxation. nungwi beach by littlebush Stone Town - i stayed in 2 different places here : Kiponda hotel - $14pppn, in a twin or triple room. Rooms are basic with shared facilities. It has a restaurant with breakfast included. Safari Lodge - a much better option for $25 for a double, $35 for a triple. Rooms have en-suite, aircon, sky tv and it too has a restaurant and includes breakfast. It is tucked away in the narrow streets and easy to miss and get lost! Nungwi - we stayed at Boabab bungalows right oon the beach. They are $15/nt per person and have twins and triples. They have a restaurant and bar with breakfast included. I have mixed feelings about this hotel & resort. The setting is beautiful, the staff friendly and food is quite good. What I did not like was the attitude and service of the staff member at the travel desk. They are extremely expensive if you want to go on any excursion if you are a party of 2. They expect you to find more people to join in and then reduce the price that way. The hotel is on the east coast and the setting is a postcard picture. The rooms are big, and is actually bungalows. Beds have mosquito nets and the rooms are sprayed with insecticide every evening. Another positive though, are the Massai men who handles the security of the hotel. They are great people to talk to. On Mondays the dinner is a Massai evening outside, which is very pleasant. If you stay at a resort on the east coast, you are quite far from Stone Town (about 1 hr 15 min). Although the hotel has a 5 star rating, it is really not more than four stars.
They do offer a lot, even have their own Diving Centre Theme: HotelPrice: US$180 and up » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: PO Box 71 - Zanzibar - TanzaniaPhone: +255 777 413647/8Directions: On the East Coast, north of BwejuuWebsite: www.karafuuzanzibar.com

Manch Lodge is a small hotel/hostel located in the old part. The people who runs it is nice and helpful. Say hello from Mama Kibanda and tell them about my recommendation.

The resort as seen by the sea while low tide by Irine_29 Most of our stay we spent at this very average resort. There were many improvements to be done if the hotelier wanted to consider it as a descent hotel: 1. Cleaning - Perhaps luck of detergents? After all this is Africa. 2. Food: The variety & the quontity of the food are certenly not its strongest point, however the worst is the quality: I ordered beaf. Have you ever seen a cat eating fish bones and on eof the bones to have stached into her throat? Uh! this is how I was looked liked in my desperate effort to chew this stone like food. They told me that it was from mainland Tanzania, bread by Masais, but this did not really make me feel much better. Should I? 3. The management: Not exactly what we call "proffesional" - We wanted to go on daily excursions. For some weird reason, EVERY time, we were the only couple who had the same idea, so that we had to pay double rate for a vehicle and guide exclusively for us. Not that we "bite it" & we waited. During our stay we met other couples, who had the same experience with us, so we arranged with them, through a travel agency and not through the hotel (the manager became so angry with the Greek & the South African couples but he could not express it. It was good to see that mean man to be boiled into his anger)
I must admit the location is very good. Far and close to everything. One step to the vilage, two steps to the Nungwin's turist center.

5 star service at a *bargain* price! by Geisha_Girl Once settled, we soon realized we were the only guests staying at the inn. What an extra treat!! The hotel has all the provisions you would need to enjoy the sea: Hammocks, beach chairs, snorkeling gear, and even a few "Robinson Crusoe-type" tree houses for you to lounge in from above. Total Relaxation at the Palm Beach by Geisha_Girl Our original plan was to stay in Stone Town the entire time we were in Zanzibar. However, in conversations with other volunteers staying in Moshi who had visited Zanzibar, they advised that we would do ourselves a great injustice if we didn't venture off to the jeweled beaches around the island. We were convinced we had to stay beachside, so a couple of days before our departure to Zanzibar, we made phone calls and booked the Palm Beach Inn in Bwejuu. At approx. $75 for a spacious (and cozy) double bungalow, it was the best little find during our stay.....
Bwejuu is located about an hour and a half drive away from Stone Town. We arranged for a driver from the Palm Beach Inn to pick our group up from the Africa House in Stone Town. One of the great things about staying in Zanzibar is that most of the hotels can arrange your transportation. DHOW PALACE HOTEL One of the better hotels in town, the Dhow is set in the centre of the action in a good rennovated Arab house, with a fine central atrium and some well-appointed rooms. The new rooftop restaurant is nice enough for breakfast when you're staying there, but like the Tembo, being owned by Moslems means no-alcohol and (to be brutally honest) in this case no real idea about food either. Never mind, you were going to eat out anyway. A good, comfortable and reasonably authentic place to stay. Guide price : $35 to $50 pppn b&b Theme: Other

by SirRichard BAGHANI HOTEL Nice little place, well located in town and with with just eight en-suite rooms, offering comfortable and good value bed and breakfast accommodation.Ask for rooms 5 & 6, which are small suites, priced at $70 double b&b, although they have recently been spoiled by the introduction of nasty floor tiles. Other rooms are quite good at $50 single and $60 double Theme: Other
