More about The Z Hotel Zanzibar

Z Hotel - 'A' Class!

by TripAdvisor Member r_lee_graham

My Girlfriend and I had an incredible stay at the Z hotel. The service was always extremely friendly and attentive, the location is out of this world and the facilities were excellent.

As the hotel is new, the rooms and the restaurant were very clean and tastefully decorated. Everything had an African feel but with a Western twist, including the food which was fantastic. The menu had plenty of variety as well, so we could choose something different every night.

The views from our room were breathtaking (ask for a sea view when booking!) and it is certainly a very romantic location. I would recommend this spot to anyone looking for a romantic getaway or a honeymoon.

If you're looking for a relaxing, romantic holiday in a setting which as close to paradise as you'll find, the Z Hotel in Nungwi is perfect.

Hakuna matata!

fantastic hotel, excellent location

My wife and i have just returned home after staying at The Z Hotel Zanzibar, for 9 nights, we had such a lovely time.
The staff were very accommadating, they were always happy to help, very knowledgeable of the local area.
We where very impressed with the food and the level of service, a little more variety on the menu would of been good, however we were there for quite a while.
Our Ocean front cottage was just perfect, an open planned sitting room on the ground floor which was very comfortable, french doors which opened up onto our own spacious private decked area looked directly out over the beautifully calm Indian Ocean. Every morning we had our breakfast on the terraced deck, no better way to start your day. The staff were more than happy to serve our evening meal here, looking up at the stairs with our own music playing in the background on the complimentary docking station (excellent touch).
very comfortable bedroom upstairs, where you could pull the curtains back in the morning, lie in bed and look out to sea. en-suite shower room, with contstant running hotwater, which has not always been the case on other trips i have experienced in Africa.
Gorgeous infinity swimming pool perfectley situated looking down onto the beach.
We both were very comfortable here, value for money.

Far away.......................somewhere very different!

Having spent some time on Safari in Kenya we wanted to relax somewhere very different and memorable. We decided on Zanzibar, but our visit to the Z Hotel in Nungwi definitely made the trip something special. We had a great suite overlooking the ocean, right on a beach which stretched far into the distance. Each evening we saw a fantastic sunset, either from our balcony or the beach.
The staff at the hotel were great, always willing to provide that 'extra' for our stay. Drinks at the Cinnamon Bar followed by dinner in the Saruche restaurant made our day.
We either relaxed by the pool, went on trips on the land, sea or just wandered up the beach. There was always something different to do or see.
The Z Hotel was of high standard and the perfect base for exploring such a special part of Africa.
Zanzibar is always remembered as the 'Spice Island' and our stay at The Z Hotel in Nungwi was definitely the spice that made the last 5 days of our time in Africa.

Second Honeymoon

My wife and I needed a break from the rat race after a very hectic year of work. We couldn't have picked a better destination than the Z-Hotel in Zanzibar! Perched on the rocks at the end of a long
white beach, perfectly positioned for those sunset cocktails by the hotel swimming pool. The hotel staff were very friendly and were always eager to please and the rooms were of a high standard and very comfortable. We ate all our meals at the hotel and were very impressed by the menu and the quality of the dishes served. We left the hotel and the island feeling re-energised, tanned and ready for the year ahead! Thank you Z-Hotel for a fantasic and memorable holiday!

Top Quality - Bliss

We stayed in 3 different hotels on Zanzibar, including the 'top' Serena Inn. The Z hotel was by far the best. Brand new and luxurious, in a stunning location, we absolutely loved it. The staff were very attentive, but without being intrusive. We throughly enjoyed the food, especially the evening buffets with local entertainment.
I've read some of the other write-ups, including moaning about tv's. This is just petty - remember this is a small, poor African island and this hotel manages to shine amongst other dank establishments - some of which are very close by.
I would thoroughly recommend it. All the other guests we spoke to were very impressed and many of those were well-travelled professionals.
The only thing I missed was fresh coffee, but I understand a new machine is being installed any day!

What a lovely hotel. Great location, great food and great service. After a hectic time on Safari we spent seven relaxing nights at The Z Hotel. We will certainly be going back.

Relaxed by the gorgeous beach

We were advised to try this hotel by some friends who are in the travel business and had heard it had opened. Though there were a few discrepancies with our stay initially we will return to the Z Hotel just for the helpful and friendly staff and the location which is exquisite. We were welcomed at the reception with a lovely fruit cocktail and Kyoso front of house manager who was so friendly and bubbly he made up for a tiring journey there.

Our room was large with a lovely balcony and view. There were a few problems with our bathroom plumbing. We mentioned the water problems and immediately staff came to assist. We were moved to an alternative room which was larger so this made up for our experience.

The Cinnamon Bar looks like a boutique cocktail bar akin to what you would find in London, however the service was a little slow. The Saruche restaurant had an extensive menu and beautiful setting but some of the dishes were not available which we found disappointing. After visisting the nearby restaurants on the beach though we came back to Saruche and Cinnamon with renewed appreciation as none of the other bars and restaurants came close to offering a similar standard.

After spending 5 nights on safari in a tent we were looking forward to our stay in the Z hotel where we could unwind and relax. The hotel did not disappoint us and was perfect for a honeymoon couple looking to chill out. We arrived very late in the evening after an hours transfer from the airport. The hotel staff were very warm and friendly on arrival and even brought us dinner to our hotel room balcony on the first night with a bottle of complimentary champagne. Our room was nicely furnished with a balcony overlooking the sea. The hotel restaurant was fantasticly set overlooking the clear blue sea and the food was excellent. We even managed to spot dolphins one day as we sat eating breakfast!!!. It was also nice to watch the local women fish with their nets in the traditional way in the shallow waters. The waiters and waitresses were all very attentive and friendly and worked very hard for you. For being a couple on their honeymoon the hotel also arranged a complimentary sunset Dhow trip and a free massage. The sunset dhow trip was fantastic and something I will always treasure. Other trips I recommend would be the Juzani forest, Stone Town, Prison Island (off Stonetown). We did go on the Spice Tour which was very interesting but it turned into a bit of a circus at the end of the tour with everybody chasing your money for something or other. Another thing worth visiting is the Turtle sanctuary which is about a 20 min walk from the hotel up the beach. The walk is very nice as you pass all the old fishing boats and you can even see where they are still making them. The Mnemba Island trip we went on was fantastic but beware the long trip on the boat there and back. The snorkelling was ok but not fantastic but the beach where you have lunch on is a piece of Paradise and its worth the trip just for that and the excellent food that gave us!!!
