lobby with carved door and local furniture by sachara The Chavda Hotel is a lovely Arab mansion with traditional furniture and Chinese vases, that were common in the 19th century aristocratic houses. We had a room with windows and views in three directions at the roofs, courtyards and alleyways around the hotel. We had nicily decorated semadari bed, a large bathroom, seats, banch and table all in style, TV and AC.
A hotel in the middle of the old town with its lovely alleyways. Free airport or seaport pick-up. Rooftopbar with fantastic views, restaurant and courtyard. The Malindi Guest House is slightly paradoxical. When you first walk in and up the stairs to reception you feel like you are in an ornate and very tall house owned by a very rich person. The decorations and decor are ornate and reflect Zanzibar history and culture. A long walk all the way to the top reveals an amazing open roof bar and restaurant area. This is one of the best places for a cheap ice cold beer to see the sunset and the port area at night. The other side? The rooms are very basic, but you do not pay much to stay here. You get a comfortable mattress on the floor with clean sheets, a very good mosquito net and a large fan overhead. No furniture, but a great low price to stay here. The only other odd thing is that it is a semi-industrial site near the port, which is not that nice at night. It is a reasonably safe area at night, but you may want to take a taxi back at night. At the very least go for the cold beer visit! I did when I visited someone staying there who felt their stay was excellent. The staff are friendly and helpful!
Great bar at the top and wonderful views of the Port. by londonbabe This is on the south side of Stone Town, opposite the Victoria Gardens. Beautifully furnished, with original Zanzibari beds and a large sitting room (pictured) it's a great place to escape the heat and touts.
Mohammed looks after the apartment and serves breakfast every morning - great fruit, sticky buns and eggs any way you like.

Interior by londonbabe This hotel, tucked away in Stone Town's alleys, is excellent value for money. The rooms are large and the bathrooms .. interesting! Ours had a marble bath.
The roof top restaurant is a great introduction to Stone Town, with views out over the harbour. And the spiced coffee at breakfast is excellent, not to mention the fresh baked pastries. The Tembo House Hotel is a real ‘WOW’. It has an understated front that opens into a dramatic courtyard that has a fantastic swimming pool surrounded by the inner balconies of the spectacular rooms. Go past this to sit on the terrace and have a cold drink or a great meal as you take in the sights of the ocean and nearby islands. The hotel is an old building that housed the American Consulate in 1834. In 1884 it become the premises of Cowasjee Dinshaw & Partners who managed trading companies in the western Indian Ocean. Their name is still on the main entrance of the hotel. Facilities • Fantastic swimming pool in the courtyard • Own beach in front of the terrace restaurant and bar • Bahari Restaurant (local and international cuisine) • Internet Café • Laundry Rooms • Most with balconies overlooking the ocean or swimming pool • Air-conditioning • Refrigerator • Telephone • Satellite TV • Mosquito netting/fans • Large Zanzibarian beds
Even if you do not stay here, come for a meal on the terrace. The food is fantastic and you can enjoy authentic African dishes with a gentle breeze and a fantastic view. The swimming pool is the best of the few in Stone Town. Go for a dip! Changing rooms and toilets are pool side. the entrance door by call_me_rhia Small, with only 16 rooms - but all decorated with Zanzibari art, all with a terrace overlooking a central courtyard, were the swimming-pool is. There is also a reasonably-priced roof-top restaurant. It's a 3 stars hotel, but it really looks posher.
I did not stay for the night, but just went in to enquire (curiosity). In each room there is a traditional Sultan-size four-poster beds. View from Tembo House bedroom window by PeteG Stayed there for 2 days and the hotel itself was lovely. Beautiful old-fashioned rooms but with excellent air-conditioning. Believe me, you are going to need it! You can eat either indoors or have a table outside right down on the beach. Really good value but no good if you want anything alcholic.
Right on the beach and very near to Stone Town's garden. Easy to get a boat out to the islands.

Me in front of the Spice Inn by SirRichard This old pension is a real legend in Zanzibar. I would write the address, but addresses are useless in Zanzibar, because you get lost anyway!!. But there are wooden signs in some corners leading to Spice Inn. Otherwise, ask, people are friendly here. The place has a real feeling of faded elegance, but the rooms are run-down, bland and shabby. Rooms are consequently over-priced, but it's got the charm of the old legends. Breakfasts at the 1st floor veranda are nice, as you see the people passing by. Theme: HotelComparison: less expensive than averagePhone: Tel: 2232174/2236799

Me at the door (wonderful door, BTW) by SirRichard Nice little place, well located in town and with with just eight en-suite rooms, offering comfortable and good value bed and breakfast accommodation. The best are rooms 5 & 6, which are small suites, although they have recently been spoiled with nasty floor tiles. Theme: HotelPhone: 255-24-2235654Other Contact: baghani@zanzinet.com

by husain Located right by the sea, and at a short distance from the airport.
Spacious rooms with individual balconies, air-conditioning, a swimming pool right by the sea, gym, tennis -court, table -tennis and pool tables... The rooms were done up quite tastefully. The tennis court though suffered from poor lighting. We could only manage a knock at the end of the day... and often relied on instinct to figure when to swing;) Theme: HotelPrice: US$80-120 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: P.
