by Wafro You’ll find upper-class hotels along the coast line, but they’re very expensive. Something else is hard to find and when you find it, they’re mostly crappy. Inside the country you can chose between crappy and dirty. But there is always the possibility to ask somebody to stay overnight, if you pay a small fee. The Trans Gambia Highway Lodge in Pakali Nding has rooms and roundavels. We stayed in a roundavel. They were rather basic, but clean. There was electricity for a few hours in the evening. After the generator was switched off, there was no electricity anymore. So bring your torch. During the night it became rather hot, because the ventilator didn't work without electricity Each roundavel has it's private toilet and shower.During our visit there was no running water, only a bucket filled with water. I liked the bright colours of the hut and the chairs and table in front of it. Trans Gambia Highway lodge by sachara Travelling from the Atlantic coast to the eastern part of Senegal, we didn't reach Georgtown, but had to spend the night in Soma. The highroad had so many potholes, that it took a lot of time to make progress. What a difference with the rather good condition of the road years ago, when we could reach very easily Georgtown at the same day. We were happy to reach Soma before dark, where we stayed in the Transgambia Highway Lodge with its colourful roundavels and restaurant. view from the balcony by sachara Our hotel during our first visit to Gambia, Badala Park, is situated in an abundant tropical garden. The balconies, though oriented at the southside, were rather cool, because of the abundant flowers and trees growing very close in front of the rooms. You can touch them and they are almost growing into your roorm.
There is a swimmimgpool. Directly from the hotel grounds a 250 M long footpath is leading to the beach. Theme: HotelComparison: less expensive than averagePhone: 460400/ fax 460402Directions: Kotu Beach, south of Fajara.

Trans gambia Highway Lodge by sachara The Trans Gambia Highway Lodge was a relaxed and easygoing place. There were not many visitors. We could park our cars in front of the roundavels. First we had a drink and took an African shower (with a bucket and cup). It was so relaxed, that it took a lot of time before our dinner was ready in the restaurant of the lodge, but who cares. For the roundavels we paid 3 euro and for the dinner 1,5 euro. The Jangjang Bureh Camp has a splendid location at the riverbank of the Gambia River. The huts are in African style and have a toilet and shower. There was no electricity, but the staff provided oillamps for each hut.
Great location at the Gambia River at the north bank opposite Georgetown. It is possible to arrange boattrips at the camp. From here you can visit also easily the area with the ancient Wassu stones. During our stay there was drumming and dancing at the compound of the camp. Kadjendo by David&Pauline If you want to stay in the Kotu area but want to avoid the big hotels, we can highly recommend the Kadjendo Guesthouse, not far from Manjai Lodge on the Serrakunda road. It’s owned by Lamin Badjie and his lovely Belgian wife. It has a very relaxed and calm atmosphere, with marvellous views from the roof terrace. A great opportunity to support a locally owned business, ensuring your money stays in the country.
We started and ended our latest tour here, Lamin safely stored one of our bags which contained additional gifts and our winter clothing, at no extra charge. We also arranged for him to pick us up at the airport at a really fare price. In Georgetown we stayed in the Janjang Bureh Camp. We slept in nicily decorated hut. In the morning we had breakfast in the open air with a nice view at the Gambia River. The temperature was nice around this time like it was during the drumming and dancing the evning before.
The relaxed atmosphere and the view at the river. Theme: HotelPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveDirections: North bank Gambia River opposite Georgetown, 300 KM east of Banjul.
