I was traveling with my 18 year old son and he was nervous about being in Tunisia so I opted for the "four star" El Hana. The decor hasn't been updated since 1960, but the staff was very helpful. The room was clean (as clean as 45 year old furnishings can be). The hotel was not impressive. I would have rather stayed at a smaller, local place - but then we wouldn't have had A/C or a bar!
Unique Quality: Great view from the 10th floor bar and the lobby bar is a great location to sit and people watch. Great location in the middle of the main drag and only blocks from the old center of town.
Opinion of Price: more expensive than average

Downtown Hotel
This hotel is adequate, but very old fashioed with out dated decor. You will need a large knife to carve your way through the smoky foyer at night!
Unique Quality: Great view from the tenth floor roof bar and balcony!
The El Hana International Hotel is one of those anonymous monolithic blocks that can be found in almost any city around the world. It’s functional and comfortable and in an excellent location close to the business district, the old medina and the souks. It’s just a 15-minute taxi ride from the airport. The hotel has ten floors, so if you have a room near the top, you get a decent view across the city. There is 24-hour room service for those who get hungry in the middle of the night.
la Brasserie des 2 Avenues
by Lunaina about El Hana International
In Tunis we had a lunch at the El Hana International la Brasserie des 2 Avenues. It is near the Medina, we had a very good lunch there and good service.

As well as having a great bar on its rooftop, El Hana International has a nice cafe/bar downstairs which fronts onto Avenue Bourguiba in the Ville Nouvelle. We came here for a drink every evening we were in Tunis. This cafe is nicer than many of the places which serve alcohol in Tunis. There is a lovely terrace overlooking the street and it's a good place to enjoy a drink and watch the world pass by.
