Hotel Salammbo

 Because our flight was scheduled to arrive in Tunis late at night, we had to make a reservation at a hotel in advance. We picked the Hotel Salammbo because it was one of the few we found to have an e-mail address at the time, but ended up making a very good choice.

Rated as a mid-range hotel in our travel guide, it turned out to be a real bargain (around $30 CAN a night for the two of us). The service was excellent: not only did the staff give us tips about how to avoid some tourist scams, but they allowed us to leave our luggage in their care while we weren't staying there (we had booked a 2-day tour outside of Tunis).

The hotel is located one street north of Place Barcelone, which is very convenient if you are arriving in Tunis by train (which was our case when we returned there) and if you will be taking the metro leger to places outside the city centre such as the Bardo Museum or Belvedere Park. It is also across the street from a bank and near Avenue Habib Bourguiba.
