Traveling with opposite sex in Tunis

by MarieValdez

My male friend and I are planning to travel together in Tunisia. We are not a couple but we plan on sharing accommodations and traveling together. Is this allowed? ;)

Re: Traveling with opposite sex in Tunis

by Bushman23

We (myself and my girlfriend) were in Tunisia in June, had a great time, and had no problems with sharing accommodation, no troubles in any of the more 'touristy' areas either. Tunisians seem a lot more open to Western ways that some other North-African countries, but i would advise caution when going to outside cafes away from tourist areas. You might get a few strange stares, as Cafes are generally for men only.

Travel Tips for Tunis

Walk through the...

by jeadon

Walk through the marketplace—the Casbah—you take a trip back in time and visit the set of a movie. You literally are transported to the year 1200, walking amongst the hoards of locals. You expect Indiana Jones to come riding through the place, whip or gun in hand. On the way back to our ferry to Gibraltar, we saw a guy offering camel rides on the side of the road. The whole place is full of the unlikely, but I suggest only a day trip there, it is so-o-o stimulating!

Bardo Museum

by croisbeauty

The main room of the museum, so-called Christian Room, is flanked by mosaics many from Tabarka. Many beautiful marble statues, from Apollo to various goddess, can be seen here. Works of art from ancient Roman times, made by unkonown artists, have perfect body proportions.

La Marsa beach

by Oana_bic

La Marsa is a northern sea side suburbs of Tunis, number one place for the higher middle class, when they go for a chic summer address.
The reason for this is easy to understand when you're down on the beach, looking up at all the nice white houses that lie among the green trees of the soft ridge running parallel to the wide beach.

Musical atmosphere

by Willettsworld about La Mamma

I came here and entered upstairs where there was live music and singing going on and the place was packed. Managed to find a table where a guy near me (who was rather intoxicated with beer) nearly caused a fight by dancing with someone else's wife! Great start to a meal! But after about 15 minutes the music stopped and a lot of people left including the intoxicated guy and the atmosphere changed for the better. I ordered a pizza followed by profiteroles which was great with good service. The band started playing again so this helped with the atmosphere.

Ave Habib Bourguiba

by Willettsworld

Avenue Habib Bourguiba is Tunis' Champs Elysees and runs from near the Medina in front of the cathedral to Lake Tunis and the port. It runs through the French part of the city known as Ville Nouvelle on land reclaimed from Lake Tunis in the 19th century. Just like the Champs Elysees in Paris, it is lined with cafes and a few hotels as well as some nice French colonnial buildings such as the National Theatre and French Embassy. The central part of the road is pedestrian and lined with trees and makes for a nice walk.
