Hotel Corniche

We stayed in Mahdia at the Hotel Corniche, funnily enough on the corniche. They only have a few rooms, and it is one of the cheapest hotel in town, so it is wise to book beforehand in high season, unless you want to sleep on the terrace. The shared bathrooms are smelly at best, and the rooms get very hot in summer, but the terrace looks onto the beach, the owners are friendly and helpful, and the restaurant below is very popular with locals.

8 years later, I ended up here again. I wanted to stay in the Hotel Medina (see tip below), but that was full, and the promising sounding Hotel Jezira had disappeared, so I was pointed to the Corniche again. It has seen a lick of paint in the intervening years, and the en-suite room I was given was far better than the interior one we had last time, clean sheets, pictures on the wall, view of the beach. I was impressed, even more so that the prices had not gone up. I paid 12 TD for the room.
