Women and children in Central Djerba.
by JLBG
Women and children walking in a group in Central Djerba. I took this picture across the windshield of the car, which is not advisable at all (it was on my first visit !). The children are showing that I should not take the picture. Sorry, I did it but now I would not do it anymore.
Rent a car and drive accross the Sahara
by misspicky
By car I crossed a part of the Sahara. On my way children jumped in front of my car at the street to stop the car. They asked for money in perfect French. I also saw a lot of children in uniform, walking to school, so I don't think they are so poor. Just trying to get money from tourists and sent by their parents to beg. I offered them cookies from a local shop, but they refused. They insisted on money. Of course I did not give them.
It's wonderful to drive in the Sahara, but the roads are not well. A 4x4 car is preferred.

El Ghriba Synagogue
by croisbeauty
El Ghriba is one of the few surviving synagogues in North Africa. It is haused in an excuisite building and is still used by the small Jewish community (around 1000 Jews live on island today).
The synagogue is situated in the middle of the island, in a village called Harah Sghira (small village) or Er-Riadh. El Ghriba in Arabic means the marvelous.
