Bordj El Kbir, the entrance
by JLBG
In front of the entrance, the square is dusty and very hot though a few palm trees bring a little shade. There are a lot of flower beds of ficoïde (Mesambryanthemum nodiflorum), a succulent plant that gives both white and red flowers and that is often planted along roads in Tunisia.
Woman in white

C lothe with a red strip is also often seen in central Djerba. It is not very different from the tunic that was worn by the ancient Romans. To day, there are less of this clothe but, especially in Central Djerba, they can still be seen sometime.
Crocodile park
by novsco61
The park was opened in 2002 within the cultural and tourist complex called Djerba Explore. The 6000 m2 park is home to 400 Nile crocodiles (Crocodylus niloticus) that are five years old and ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 m in length. They were brought from a farm in Madagascar in 1998 and raised in other part of Tunisia.
Park offers its visitors pleasant walks around and above pools ringed by natural palm trees, in a desert setting. A greenhouse with a heating system has been built to provide warmth for crocodiles during cold winter nights, and the crocodiles have been trained to return into the greenhouse when it is cold outside. Tropical vegetation has been planted inside to contrast with the outside, providing the full, unique experience of visiting North Africa.
Right now they have for months old little crocodiles.
Women in traditional garments
by JLBG
This photo shows the traditional garments of two Djerbian women, one is in black and the other in white cloth. Both have a thin red stripe at the bottom of their djellabah and a wider stripe slant across the middle of the garment. They walk in front of a shop that sells cloth.
El Ghriba Synagogue
by croisbeauty
The exterior of the synagogue looks like most of the buildings in Tunisia, white coloured facade with blue coloured windows. There is nothing in particularly interesting on the outside aspect of the synagogue, one could easily passed by without stopping. The interiors of the synagogue, however, is very beautiful and richly decorated. I have visited dozens of synagogues, mostly in the European towns, but this one is undoubtely the most beautiful of all which I have seen so far.
