More about Tryp Golf Residence Hotel
Good Quality Hotel
This hotel is a bigger than it looks. The bed rooms are very spacious and are decorated to a Arabic style.
When going to Tunisia I heard that many bad reports about the food there, well the food at the Golf Residence was very good with plenty of choice and I would say as good as any other Hotel that I have stayed in on a buffet basis plus we did not have stomache problems.
The Pool area is very big and there is plenty space.
The hotel as a Disco but the best attraction it as a Pub and they make there own beer as well as being able to by food there.
In the Atrium there is a sov shop. Indoor Pool
Very friendly staff
I had a great time there. The hotel was ecellent with good food and also it was very clean. Apart from its ideal location, the staff were really great. Every night there was good entertainment. The animators make you feel at home and try to do their best to please you. Definetely I would recommend it.
This hotel was lovely, its a three star and was in walking distance to the marina and shops in Port El Kantaoui, there are 237 rooms with bath and shower and a balcony there was even a fridge which came in very handy. The rooms were very clean and comfortable and the food was nice. There wasn't alot of entertainment in the evenings though. There is a outdoor and indoor pool, sun terrace with snack bar, moorish cafe, tennis courts, table tennis and pool tables. Its also right near a supermarket, hairdressers and internet cafe. This hotel is ideal for familys.
Changing ladies show
The day after I arrived there was a show called changing ladies and I was really eager to see what was it like. It costs 10 dinar but hey they really did a great job because everyone was laughing from the beginning of the show till the end. They are gays dressed up like women but with wonderful outfits. They mime with popular songs and make everyone participate. In fact they went on every single man they saw and danced in front of him... it was really funny. Worth going.... it was held in the bar so you can have a drink and enjoy the show.
This was a big buffet...
This was a big buffet organised by the hotel. The name of the hotel was Golf Residence. The hotel was simple but nice, but this was spectacular! This is not even half of the food on the picture! And it was very good too. Wanna more about this dinner?? Look at my travelogue.
Good value for money
We have just returned from a very pleasant family holiday at the Golf Residence. Given that the hotel is rated as 3 star we didn't expect bells and whistles, but were pleased with the service levels, friendly staff, and very tasty food on offer. The hotel is also conveniently located within walking distance of the marina and other attractions. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be returning.
Booked a late deal, didn't know what to expect. Hotel was adequately decorated although a little dated, but the staff made up for this by being extremely friendly. The room was kept very clean by our maid who was a jolly lady (Fatima). Also a free horse drawn carriage to and from the beach with (Mohammed) the driver a genuinely friendly local. His horse loved sugar cubes and apples that we bought from the supermarket next door.
The hotel has a lovely pool area. A good variety of food at dinner time, breakfast a bit limited though unless you really like eggs, as its eggs, cakes, salad, cereals and one toast machine for the whole restaurant.
The carpets were cleaned during our stay and furniture was being restored. Food is really cheap to buy in Tunisia along with eating out. Taxis also very cheap as we went out most evenings to the Tour Kalef Hotel about three miles away for 3 or 4 Dinar, £1.20 to £1.60. This was the only place we found that does Ballroom and Latin dancing that we like. However The Golf Residence is Ideally located close to the Marina where everything is there for a great holiday that doesn't cost a lot. We stayed for one week in mid November and the weather was fantastic, sunny every day and 23C - 25C. We have stayed in better hotels but also paid more for them. The Golf Residence is now on our list of places to return to in the future.
Don't go here!
We spent a week here and hated it. The place is shabby and downright disgusting in places. Our room was clean but in need of reburbishment. The bathroom was worse. The enamel on bath was peeling and the shower curtain had some very dubious stains. We asked for another room but were told there were none. We were only there for 7 nights so made the best of it but would never go back. The travel agent's brochure was misleading and, although we didn't expect 4 star luxury from a 3 star hotel, we had been to Tunisia before and knew that the standard of hotels is generally very high. We had a look in some of the others nearby (Kanta, Marhaba Palace and Hannibal Palace) and they were lovely.
The food was edible but bland and tasteless.
Having said all of that, the resort itself was beautiful and we just got out every day and spent time at the beach or the gorgeous Marina. Go to Tunisia but DON'T stay at the Golf Residence!
two fab weeks!
Four of us have just returned from two weeks at Golf Residence (10-25 September). We got a fab deal half board at this three star hotel. We arrived at 3am and after completing registration cards were allocated our two rooms. The night porter was eager to assist with our cases, pleasant and grateful when we tipped him! Staff were pleasant and helpful.
Although the rooms were off a long corridor they were a genourous size with en suite facilities, and yes maybe a lick of paint is due! But we were pleased with our rooms- for 3 star! Every single day our towels were changed and the rooms cleaned. The cleanliness from this perspective was very good.
There are lifts to each floor -and on one occasion the lift stuck for two minutes with us in- but we just found this amusing!
The dining room offers a vast selection of foods- and I know past reviews complain of the lack of English brekkie- if you want this -stay in England! We embraced the culture!
Brekkie+ Selection of cereals, cold meats, cheeses, toast, jams, salad bar, and a various selection of eggs-scrammbled, boiled, fried, etc.-usually served with a bread based dough.
Evening-Selection from salad bar, choice of two soups, selection from 4/5 main courses, and selection of pastries/ ice creams etc.
I can honestly say that we found they changed their menu regularly.
Drinking- although local brands are served in hotel the were not going to get us drunk! The more well known spirits are on the expensive side! You will find some places thats erve beer on tap, the majority sold is bottled beer Celtia- and you wont be drunk on that either!
The pool area is ample size- beds free but you will pay 2 dinar for a matress. There are plenty of activities going on around pool area and we have to say Azim was very friendly! We like the beach and the hotel lays on a horse and cart to take you to their part of the beach. However after a week we found that the beach area was far nicer to the left of the mariner- plenty of paraglyding/speedboat/pedalo!
We went to the changing ladies show/reps show in Sousse and again had a great laugh! We also went on half day trip camel riding around the olive groves. I recommend this to you- we had so much fun!
As far as location this hotel is fab. It's just off roundabout that leads to marina. Across from the hotel is a brill waterpark. We had a great day there also.
Transport- taxi seems to be the mode of transport but let me tell you it's a white knuckle ride!!! They have two speeds go and stop/no indicators just horns!!! It will cost about 6 dinars to get to Sousse. At the Medina in Sousse you can expect to be pestered and you will need to haggle for the best price. The food market is a real eye opener and don't expect any infection control rules !!!!We got some great leather goods and souvenirs. We also went for a ride in horse and cart- approx 7 dinars per couple. We found two great ppubs The Saloon- a western themed pub, and Legends-a trendy bar with a football theme! Another way of getting around is by Tuk Tuk a motorised open bike thingy!! Again the highway code is not in existence so beware!
Port el Kantaoui is fab. The marina is surrounded by cafe bars and there is a restaurant on an anchored boat- however we didn't have the best of meals there! For a special night(it was my birthday) we went to Mediteranean restaurant where the food was fabulous.
We will certainly be returning to this area again and who knows may even consider 5 star next time? But if we want a cheap deal for two weeks we would certainly return to Golf Residence.
Worst Hotel I've Ever Stayed In
One phrase springs to mind; ‘You pay for what you get’
My fiancée and I booked our holiday through the internet 6 weeks prior to leaving and got a good deal, well so we thought. I wasn’t expecting 5 star luxury but neither was I expecting quite the run down state that this hotel is in. It is of need of a major refurbishment, a new recipe book for the head chef and a pool cleaning system that actually cleans the pool.
I can not fault the friendly nature of the staff nor the Tunisian people but the décor of the rooms, the lack of attention to finishing and the standard of the food resulted in an over conclusion that is the title to my review. The food was so bad that we only ate at the restaurant for breakfast and our evening meal twice. For instance there is every choice of egg for breakfast with a stodgy pancake or a stale croissant if you wish but no sausages or bacon!! However you can order a full English breakfast at the pool bar anytime of the day at a cost of 7 Dinas! Dinner time is not much better if you like over cooked meat, rice and vegetable soup. The imagination that goes into the food is as great as the décor, terrible.
I would not recommend this hotel. However if you get the opportunity to go on the Desert Safari two day excursion I thoroughly recommend it. You will get the unforgettable experience of a lifetime when riding camels in the Sahara, watching the sunrise over the salt lakes and driving through some of the most stunning scenery you will ever see. However be very careful what you eat as we both suffered with stomach pains later on in the second day.

Re: golf residence port el kantoui
Hi, just to confirm the previous post. I stayed in Golf Residence in April, 2006 and it was great. Clean, good service, good food. It is close to the beach. I would not book a more expensive hotel even if I could aford it. There is no need. Also some of the 4/5 star hotels are far away from the beach. You made a great choice. Enjoy it
Port el Kantaoui- Golf Residence in mid May
Hi! I am quite new here! I would like to ask the following questions, Please help! Many thanks!
1) What is the weather like in the mid May?
2) Is the see water warm enough and many sunshine for sunbathing that time?
3) Is Golf Residence is good accommodation ? Do we have to pay for beach chair (half board)?
4) How much does two days desert safari trip cost?
entertainment in other hotels!?!!
I'm heading to Golf Residence in PEK, petrified after reading some of the reviews, anyway i've been told by friends that it is quite acceptable to visit other hotels to benefit from their entertainment at night, is this true??
