Travelling from Hammamet to Douz

by Woofla

Hello

We are visiting Tunisia for the first time but only have a week. We are staying in Hammamet.

Please could someone advise us of the best way to travel to Douz for a camel ride into the Sahara and how long the journey to Douz takes? Also, is there a good place to book the camel ride and would anyone recommend staying overnight in the Sahara and, if so, how do we organise it?

Thank you for any help you can give us!

Hi Woolfla,

Its great to spend the evening in the desert in Tunisia.

You can book a two day trip from any hotel. at your resort.

Thinking back to when my wife was there last on day 1 you take the coach into the desert then visit the Roam artifax. Then onto an Oasis stopping at various towns on the way. The evening is in a hotel and at 06.00am on day 2 they take you to your camel and you ride into the desert whilst watching the sun rise..Its an amazing site and one you will miss if you do not stay overnight. More sitseeing and visiting a snake charmer and market before heading back to your resort. It was really good

Best regards.
Mick..

Travel Tips for Hammamet

Beach activities

by croisbeauty

Hmmm, this wasn't an easy task to do, taking picture of the married Tunisian women while in the water. Most of the men watched me very carefully when I strolled on the beach with my camera so I couldn't take the picture in the normal way. Luckilly, I have camera with display which can be turned in all direction and the eyes couldn't see what I was shooting at.
The custom is, as you can see, very rigid. Married women cannot enter in the water in, what we call, normal swiming costume. Brrr, what a way to refresh in the sea-water.

This is the main entrance into the amusement park, which is also situated on the central square of the new Medina. The gate is built in the style of ancient Carthage, with two huge elephants on each side and the Hanibal's soldiers riding on them.

" A visit to Tunisia"

We split our visit to Tunisia in half, a week in Hammamet and a week in Port El Elkantoui.

Our base for our time in Hammamet was the 4 Star Azizia hotel, which is located right on the beach.

"Port El Elkantoui"

Our base for our stay in PEK was the 4 star Kanta hotel. PEK is a purpose built holiday resort with its modern marina

"Sousse"

A lively city, full of sights sounds and colour. A must is a visit to the medina, it spacked with local characters. The medina is also packed with historical sites.
