Hammamet is a wellknown touristcity with excellent hotels, a nice climate and plenty to do. Don't miss a walk through the medina, see the little shops and walk up to the Kasbah, where you have a beautiful view over the city by the sea. There's a nice cafe outside the
citywall (at the corner in front of the sea), where you can have a coffee or f.ex. tea with pine seeds and a cake.
From Hammamet you can book several trips:
Tunis is a modern city with big boulevards, but also a big old souk. Start your walk through the small street in the souk at the Porte de France. In the street of carpets is Cafe 'Mrabe' with a nice tea room.Don't miss a visit to Bardo museum, which is in an old palace with a big garden. The museum is in the old Haremrooms with decorated ceilings. They show an immense collection of old mosaiks and antiks.
Near Tunis is Karthago, walk through the excavations of the antik city, which is since 1974 a world cultural city of the UNESCO.
Sidi Bou Said with the beautiful white houses with blue doors is a village of artsians. August Macke and Paul Klee did many paintings here. Take a the a la menthe in the famous Cafe des Nattes.
Kairouan is one of the holy cities of Islam. You should visit the Grande Mosque with it*s big yard, the souk and the bassins des Aghlabites. At the beginning of the souk, somewhere in the right is an excellent confectionary, where you can taste and buy sweets (makrouts). We liked them very much (with honey, nuts...). Kairouan is also wellknown for the carpets. It is a beautiful friendly city.
