how to do the 2 day sahara trip?

by safari_traveler

Hi everyone,

Can someone tell me what is the best way to do the 2-day Sahara trip? I will be staying in Hammamet in May and definitely want to visit the desert. I'm guessing it has to an overnight stay because it's so far from Hammamet? Did anyone take tours from the hotel? What was your mode of transportation? Did you go to Tunis to take a bus/train? Where did you stay once you were there? (Douz, etc.) Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

If you are travelling on a package holiday your rep will sell you the trip & if you're travelling independently the hotel can usually help out.

I've done both - though from Port el-Kantaoui not Hammamet - the reps tour was for 2 days & we travelled by coach & stayed overnight in a hotel in the oasis at Douz, the tour I did through the hotel was for 3 days and we travelled in a 4x4, we stayed overnight in Matmata & Douz - I personally prefered the 3 day trip, yes it was slightly more expensive but it was less frenetic, you had more time to see things & it was much more comfortable - 4 people in a 4x4 or 50+ on a cramped coach?!!

You won't have to go to Tunis to do the tour you can be picked up at your hotel (this is included in the price of the trip - or should be!)

Hope this helps - have a brilliant time, it's an amazing trip!

Chott El Jerid

This is salt desert with termal-salted water. Amazing are the colours, especially the colour of the red colour of the water. If you're visiting this as apart of a jeep-safari to desert, you'll be stopping here only for a couple of minutes, just to go to the toilet in a little shop, buy some suovenirs (esp. desert roses) and take a photo of this nature's wonder.

beaches and beach life, hammamet

by smirice38

"beaches"

the beaches of hammamet are really fantastic with white sand and warm water you can easily relax your holiday away on these beaches
there are really quiet beaches and then there are the ones that have water sports ,bars, and restaurants, horse riding and camel rides
my favourite beach is the bel air beach area, here the bar belair beach will serve you snacks and drinks all day long and the staff will keep you well entertained they will even keep away the beach sellers if you want them to.the food is good and cheap and the drinks are always cool.

"horse and camel rides"

horse and camel rides are fairly cheap just make sure you ask a price before you take a ride
