Dive school ????

by TripAdvisor Member tangtastic

We have just got home today from the Melia El Mouradi Palace.

I have to say i agree that i think it was more a 3/4* hotel. the hotel was very clean the staff were great and very friendly. The entertainment was quiet poor. Not a great deal of choice with the food more fruit and cakes then anything else. But it is still one of the best hotels we have stayed at in Tunisia

The dive school that came to the hotel was not all that it was sold as, although it was only 45 dinar.
They sell it as

Refresher training when you reach the dive centre
Leave at 8.45 back at hotel by 12
Go out in a boat to the dive site 30 minutes dive 1 to 1
Drink provided on return to the dive centre
No pressure dive only when you are 100% happy

This is what you get

No refresher at dive centre
Left hotel at 8.45 got back at 1.40 after having to wait 1 and an half hours to get out on the boat, as they over booked.
Taken out on an old rusty
Get to dive site and they have no time for you to wait around they want you in the water
No 1 on 1 more like 3 to 1
No drink provided on return from dive

If you give the signal that you are not happy that you want to go back up they tell you to keep swimming, well at least that is what they done to my 15 year old son, until i demanded they take him back up.

They even took a bloke out who could not swim, telling him it would be fine that they would take all the time he needed to get him into the water and happy. When in fact they got him to sit on the back of the boat when he refused to get in the sea they pushed him in backwards. Which caused him to panic and i had to pull him out, obviously he refused to go back in the sea again.

This is not run by the hotel just someone they let into the hotel to sell the scuba dive to you

Amazing!

I have just recently arrived back from Tunisai an Monday, the weather was amazing and the hotel was fantastic! I have never been to a place where the staff are so friendly and co-operative. Entertainment at night suited all ages. Although this hotel is rated a 5* in the broucher it is not a typical Eurpean 5* but comes very close!! I had a fabulous time and hope to return next year without a doubt!! Have Fun to anyone who is going!! x

? I do not agree with the majority here!

Come on, guys! I have to say, I do not understand all the 4 and 5 star ratings on this page. The hotel was poor. The room smelt horrible, the decor throughout is ancient and some investment here is desperately needed.

The food wasn't too bad, and the choice is good, but had flies swarming all over it, which turned my stomach.

Not my cup of tea at all, but then I was probably not the typical guest at this place - I was here for a conference rather than on holiday. Maybe it's better with the wife and kids.

Nice hotel ... but definitely NOT 5 Star ...

We've just returned from Tunisia. We had a lovely time. Hotel was nice - but we did expect it to be nicer than it was. Definitely not 5-star, maybe 3 or border 4-star. Beach is beautiful though, and the staff very helpful and friendly (all but a few on reception). Would recommend it - food was nice in hotel - we tried eating out but no where was as nice as the hotel food - there was a variety of foods to choose from - actually excellent selections to choose from. BUT as mentioned do not have high expectations of the rooms - their website is a little deceiving.

Terrible Hotel

by A TripAdvisor Member

This hotel should not be rated as a 5 start but a 3 star. The food was awful. Breakfast consisted of omlette, boiled carrots, boiled cabbage and cereal. They dinner was awful, with cold hard peices of meat. Very bad. The room was ok, but the fridge was never fixed and the phone kept breaking down. The staff dont really care how your stay is. Overall, I would not go back here again but go back to hammamamet where a hotel of 3 star rating is far more better. This hotel spoilt most of our holiday, we came back with weight loss cause the food was terrible!!

Hi, I was in Tunisia many times, mostly may/june but also late in the year.
In 2007 I was there in september and the year before in october. The weather was very fine although late in the year in can be chilly in the evening but during the day the sun can be very hot. PEK is very nice indeed but why don't you try Tozeur for one week or if you stay in PEK for more than 1 week, for example 1-12 days, combine PEK with Tozeur. Take the train from Sousse (main train station) to the heart of Tozeur (1 day train, 1 night train; it will cost you about 6 hours) and enjoy the oasis and the very beautiful accommodation. A hotel can be booked by agoda.com (look for the El Mouradi Hotel; good price and very good hotel).
So, PEK in october... Just do it (or at least try it!).
