More about El Mouradi Palm Marina
Brilliant Choice Of Hotel - El Mouradi Palm Marina
We have recently returned from a wonderful first break in Tunisia. This hotel was very welcoming and clean. Staff were helpful and friendly. The hotel offers you the opportunity to do as much or as little as you like and has a fantastic entertainment team. The choice of food in the restaurants was fantastic and you could try something different every day. We would return to this hotel again without hesitation. Thank you Palm Marina for a memorable holiday.
Brilliant holiday at Palm Marina
We just returned from our holiday to El Mouradi Palm Marina on 05/08. The hotel is magnificiently clean and so are the dining halls and bedrooms. The pools and the surrounding areas are kept in excellent condition. There is a variety of food on offer and this place is highly recommended for families with children. Evening entertainment is a good laugh.
Palm Marina - No Thanks
We stayed in this hotel from the 18/08/2007 for 7 nights. We were informed it was a *5 Star* hotel, we were charged *5 Star* prices.
The rooms were not up to standard, they were not very clean. The furnishings were old and theye were cracks in the walls, floors etc. The safety barrier on the balcony was not safe.
The food was terrible, we all got tummy bugs. We are seasoned travellers we have never encountered this before, but in general most people appeared to have the same bug.
The representative from the travel company also agreed with our complaints. The only good point was the head waiter in the pool restaurant was lovely and extremely helpful and even offered to take us to his home and his wife would cook for us.
middle range hotel/high class if you "catch" a goo
...first class hotel-also prices (for Tunisian circumstances...too much crowd by ...tourists... ...exellent food and "wineceller", big rooms, good stuff...
Better but not the best
My family and I have just returned from our Holiday from Hell!!
The palm marina was not the hotel we booked it was the sister hotel owned also by Mouradi the club kantaoui which was disgraceful( please read my other review).
We where transferred by Panorama holidays to the Palm Marina 8 hours after landing in Tunisia for our first time(not a very good start i know), upon entering after leaving the hell hole club kantaoui the Palm Marina is welcoming, clean with very friendly staff, who did everything they could to help us after our tramatic start to the holiday.
Our rooms where clean, spacious and kept tidy by the maids throughout our stay.
The pool and beach staff where friendly, the area was clean( but maybe could have been kept cleaner ), and we found the outdoor poolside restaurant was one of the better places to eat.
Although we have no complaints regarding the staff in the restaurant the food however does leave at lot to be desired if you're english!! The dishes at every meal were very European and clearly the English people are very much a minority in this country so if you're expecting bacon and eggs or coco pops or frosties prepare to be disappointed.
The animation team are very friendly and did their best to welcome us and make our stay happy and to get us involved in all activities although i'm not sure whether this was because they where good at their job or because i have a pretty blonde fourteen year old daughter !!!
The bad points throughout our stay my younger daughter became quite seriously ill with violent stomach pains and chronic bouts on the toilet serious enough that the rep called a doctor and she was given antibiotics, injections and enough dioralite to sink the titanic all over again!! Three full days and a lot of tears later she did recover and went on to enjoy her hols but not quite what you expect to be doing on a three grand hol having daily injections in your rear end. My concerns to the Panorama rep where noted about the awful amount of people ill in the hotel what was done about it i'm not yet sure but i will be letting them know in writing.
As regards to other comments referring to the staff working better when tipped this i must definatley disagree with, i never tipped anyone member of staff until the last day and i decided ten dinars was adequate to each member who had made sure my pizza's were hot, my wine was refilled, my room was kept tidy and to the waiter who supplied my husband with endless coffee's after never asking for any ten dinars was an insult.
My only other gripe is not the hotel itself but port el kantaoui if you've got young daughters blonde or otherwise then don't bother going as it's not worth the hassle, you are constantly dragged into shops whether you want to shop or not and they're not very good at taking no for an answer.
On the whole after a disastrous start we went on to have a good holiday and we would definatley go back to the palm marina again next year.
One of the best holiday experiences to date
We have been back for three weeks now, yet the holiday we had at Palm Marina is still fresh in our memory. I have just re booked for a week in October, we liked the hotel so much.
The hotel is wonderful, as are all the staff. The pool area is kept clean and the suite rooms are well worth paying the extra for. The restaurant takes a couple of days to get used to, can be very busy during peek times, but the waiting staff even seem to make it a pleasuable experience. The variety of food is good - I have two young children whom are quite fussy eaters, yet they could select something to their taste every day and we were there for two weeks.
The animation team are superb - and I can recommend the daily aqua aerobics sessions run by Adam!! You will see what I mean when you see him.
Only advise I woulg give, is that as this is an all inclusive hotel, there is very little need to bring much spending money. We found that if you refrained from tipping the staff untill the last day, the level of service remianed consistantly good. The weather is superb and is a very cosmopolitan hotel - very few English visitors - and it helps if you can speak some French.
Great Beach Front Location
I'm just back from 2 weeks all inclusive at the Palm Marina and had a great holiday.
The Hotel is on the beach - although if you want a good seat get there early! Great stretch of beach to have a little walk along.
The hotel staff were all great and very attentive and I didn't tip until the very last day so they weren't doing it just because they had received a few dinar the day before.
Plenty to do during the day all arranged and run by the fantastic animation team who work there socks off every day from 10am til midnight always with a smile and hello for everybody great people.
Great room overlooking the pool and sea was kept very clean and mini bar was re-stocked every day which was very welcoming to have a nice cool drink when you back to your room at the end of a hard day by the pool - the waiters around the pool really can read your minds and know exactly when to appear!
The main restaurant can be a bit confusing - you are allocated a table but it's not always available because it's allocated 2/3 times - but our waiter was always on the look out for 'his guests' and quickly got an alternative for you to sit at.
I would go back and recommend it to others.
just arrived home from palm marina last night , never been so sad leaving a hotel, at 1st we were a bit dissapointed by the hotel room, overlooking a side track with just a glimpse of sea(compared with others who had sea views at same price)we asked for a move but they wanted £300 extra!! so we stayed put after there your not on hols 2 look at the room.anyway went to marina that night hated the hasseling its not just blonde girls who get hasseled my daughter and i are both dark, but we just didnt go backafter that. thats when the holiday really got going weve never met so many lovely people fellow holiday makers and staff, staff were lovely entertainment crew brilliant they made my daughters holiday ,the bar staff even the piano bar were great sorry to dissagree with nikki below haha, they were just a little stressed (long story )lol. the pool drinks man great the food great,we had tummy upsets but im sure it was the rich food and lots of drink we wearnt used to,the people we met were great and will keep in touch with most of them, the last few days went down a bit as the polish arrived ! what a rude lot!! thought the french and germans were bad enough but poles .......i know they arent used to holidaying but get some manners the staff were so polite to them even when being treated like there personal servents. but overall a great holiday id love to go back but it was our 2nd time in tunisia and we`d like 2 go some wer else, and i dont think a 2nd time is ever as good as the 1st time id be too sad if the same staff wearnt there.thanx every 1 who made our holiday so lovely xxxxxxxxxxxxxx
5* Hotel? It's a joke!
We are a Portuguese young couple. We have booked this Hotel in the last minute, with an all inclusive offer from TravelPlan. We'll try to be very concise about this Hotel:
The staff is terrible. They speak some french, mostly arabic, some bad English. Some reviewers say that they are nice, and we completely disagree. They are very unfriendly, and they really don't know how to work, for the European Standard that we are used. We asked the staff to put some chairs in the beach, they do it, but they are always telling some bad jokes for us to do that kind of work instead of them! We ask for a spoon for the coffee in the Restaurant and they tell us to go and pick it up in some place that was always without spoons. 5* Hotel All Inclusive???
The staff is always waiting for a tip. If you give them some 'dinnars' maybe they will treat you a little bit better. 5* Hotel All Inclusive???
The rooms are very old and not clean. When we arrived, there were some pubic hairs in the WC!!!!! 5* Hotel??? They don't change the bed sheets every day. They don't give you knew packs of small shampoo and soap every day, even when they are all empty! 5* Hotel??? If you give some tips to the cleaning ladies...They don't clean the room in decent hours, even when you put the signal to clean up the room in the door. You go to the beach in the morning, you come to room at 2pm to take a shower and the room is not cleaned, and most of the times, they take the towels out of your room early in the morning!
The food... definitely not a 5* Hotel. Probably a 3*star or less. Always the same food. Most of the people we met in the Hotel had gastric problems. And that's strange for Portuguese people, since our fantastic portuguese food is "hard". They have 4 restaurants: one big cantin, one "morroco", one italian/asiatic and one "barbecue". The food in the cantin, seems like in the school/army. Always the same, they don't change. The fruit is terrible. 2-3 kinds of fruit, mostly grapes, and nothing else. The desserts horrible, like supermaket bad cakes. The breakfast was ok. The "morroco" is very bad. The Italian/Asiatic one, we were not allowed to enter although it was an ALL INCLUSIVE hotel. We could only pick one special restaurant! The waiters in the Restaurants are very, very bad. They are very slow, they don't speak well to you. You ask for a drink, and they take like 15min to give it to you. You know how they clean the table sheets?? They put it on the other side!!!! even it has wine and other stuff in it!!! 5* Hotel????????? Of course that they work much better if you give them a tip...
In the everning bars, you normally wait 30min for the waiters, even if you are always trying to call him!
The swimming poll is very good. The beach is Ok but very dirty. Do you know how they clean up the beach after a day with hundreads of tourists? They put the garbage under the sand! Nice move....
The sea temperature is fantastic. The only problem are the jellyfish that sometimes appeared.
If you wanna do a late check-out (if your flight is at the end of the afternoon, for example) you have to pay 5 dinars per person! (not for room!!!)
I guess for now it's enough. In conclusion, we have spent some nice holidays, in terms of sun, sea, swimming pool, but definitely this is not a 5* hotel. It's probably a 3 star hotel in the European standart.
We are going back!!!
Ok booked this holiday with trepidation having read some of the previous reviews.
We are a family with 2 adults and one teenager 14.5 year old girl.
We stayed 14 days and it was most enjoyable, we met loads of people who came from different cultures.
Our immediate impressions were excellent, even after a late booking in and some minor delays.
Our room was welcoming and very clean, our maid was helpful and excellant and under paid! The room was large and airey, and everything functional, room service was quick and efficient. Our view of the pool and sea was outstanding, and not at all noisy. A pre evening drink on the balcony after a hard day beside the pool was a must!
The restaurants, a little noisy and confusing, always something you could eat (and we are fussy about our food), but not always as well balanced as you would eat at home.....But food was plentiful and always available 24/7, The waiters always welcoming and cheerful and most of all helpful and polite.
The pool area excellent clean and relaxing with something for all tastes , Sun ,shade, tranquility or entertainment, but best of all poolside waiters on hand, and they had the knack of reading your mind...
Entertainment team...In my mind the most overlooked staff of the hotel, they worked long hard hours and got very little back in return, in fact we made a point of tipping the best ones at the end a few dinars each...The evening entertainment always a little cheesy, but always quite funny, , and you could be as involved or detached as you chose...
Disco, this was ok, not our adult taste, but our daughter enjoyed it and the club music..
Piano Bar was in my opinion the worst part of the hotel, we found the staff in there unhelpful, miserable and not to our taste, but that was easy, we just didnt use it or reallty have the need too, this of course is a personal choice, and it depends on your likes and dislikes.
Port El kantaoui... Great place, enjoyed a couple of meals out there,a restaurant called Le Mediterranee, fantastic food cost us about £50 for 2 courses for three of us including wine and spirits...and a tip.. and we were so full we had to walk for hours after...
Shopping here no problems whatsoever, even with a teenager whos blonde and fair skined...excelent bargains, polite staff who do haggle with you, and chase down the street, but we just laughed with them and got are own way, and its all done if you have the right attitude with good spirit.. well worth the experience.
Beach is clean and tidy, and sun beds plentiful... Horse and camel riding on the beach during sunset was excellent and just enough without being boring, for three of us this cost £15 for 40 minutes....and no haggling!!!
Overall We had no problems, everything we asked for was done, and we cant wait to return...
Go with the right attitude an open mindand apprieciate you are in Africa...
My last bit of comment is We felt 100% comfortable with our teenager being out of sight at any time, as we knew staff were looking out for her all the time with her interests at heart and that in todays day and age is priceless.....
i'm going in sousse for new year's eve on December 27th 2006.
Please tell me if you know more details about El Mouradi Palm Marina
What should my expectations be at this hotel?
Please if you have any news for me, details, information, experiences at this hotel, let me know at the following address:firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you very much.
Hello, I am a single female looking to travel to Tunisia on either July 22nd or July 26th for 7 nights. I have the choice of not going on holiday or going alone since my friend had to pull out at the last minute. Now, I dont mind travelling alone but if there is anybody there during these dates and staying in the Port el Kantoui area (possibly Mouradi Palm Marina or Abou Soffiane) would you like to meet up and keep me company for a bit? I'll probably feel more comfortable when I get there it is just the thought of being alone in restaurants etc that fills me with dread!! Karenx
Re: Holiday alone!!!
I had a mind to accompany but I'm far away.
Re: Holiday alone!!!
Thats a shame! Still have my problem
Re: Holiday alone!!!
I haven't been to Tunisia but in general in Muslim countries, there should be a section for women to dine in, ask if you're not sure. Its better to eat in the womens section and a great way to meet locals!
Good luck with the search for a travel mate, maybe try www.hospitalityclub.org also.
Re: Holiday alone!!!
Thanks for that. I'l let you know how I get on. Im terrified!!! lol!!!
Re: Holiday alone!!!
Djerba is a long way from PEK.
PEK is totally built for tourists, you'll be perfectly ok there. I would imagine that you'll soon find many people to befriend, the Tunisian men may be a little overpowering but you'll be just another tourist and no one will know that you are alone initially.
I'd come with you but my wife would get upset, lol.
Re: Holiday alone!!!
I probably don't have to tell you this but to be sure, dress conservatively. Wear long pants or skirts and sleeves at least T-shirt length, but better elbow-length. In the tourist areas its probably fine, but all the same if you want to reduce unwanted male attentions, respect local customs.
Re: Holiday alone!!!
i will have my holidays from 26 jully to 4 august ..
i will visit Tunisia by car ..and alone ..
we can spend our holidays together ..
