Sister travelling to Sousse
by Ashley_19
Could anybody help me?? My little sister has never been abroad before and is wanting to move to Sousse. Could anybody let me know if you have ever been there or what you liked and disliked? Im rather scared of what sort of things she will get up to if there are any streets that are dangerous?
I personally have never been to Tunisa so am not sure what i can help her with
ANYBODY HELP??

Why would she want to move to Sousse if she has never been abroad, let alone to Tunisia or Sousse. What does she envision doing there? I have been to Sousse, for a day, and personally would never seek to go back. However, I don't like overly-touristy places. Other than my own personal dislikes, it's an okay place. Can't really say more as it would be rather a waste of time if your sister or yourself have nothing to compare it with!!

My cousin has her own property in Sousse. It just concerns me because of her not leaving England before. Could you let me know what you didnt really like about the place?
Many thanks
Ashley

As I said, it is extremely touristy, which is not my idea of enjoyment.

How does your sister intend to support herself in Sousse?
I think people will be better able to advise if they know what kind of lifestyle she intends to lead.
Seems odd that she should have her own property there if she has never left the UK.

It is the cousin that has the property not the sister!
Ashley,
Sousse is a big place, is the property "in" Sousse, or near to.
Does sister speak Arabic or French?
Sousse is a very busy tourist resort in the season, I, like Hawkhead, do not like touristy areas, however I have stayed in Sousse twice for one night on the way home from further south. The only time I have ever been stopped by Tunisian police was in Sousse. I would suggest that any dangers would be associated with the drunken tourists rather than the locals.
There are no "dangerous" streets, but I wouldn't venture into the medina at night. If she is a good at making friends then she will have many.
Have a look at www.nomarmiteintunisia.co.uk, there is loads of info there.

Still rather confusing. If the cousin has the property surely the cousin will be able to guide the sister?

I also wonder about the fact that the sister is, in effect and legally, a minor.

Travel Tips for Sousse
Sousse: nice place, friendly people.
by phayao
I won't say "I love Tunis" as it has a long way to go if they wish to be a permanent destination for international tourism, but it is a country well worth the visit.
The main attractions: warm weather, friendly people, reasonable good tourist infrastructure, Punic ruins, wonderful Roman mosaics, good beaches, relaxing atmosphere, social and religious tolerance, good roads, cheap prices, easily reached by air from Europe, safe streets and interesting places to visit.
Sousse has good hotels, a long and clean beach, an interesting medina (old walled city), Chistian catacombs and craftsmanship shops. Friendly people.
Port El Kantaoui
by kris-t
Port El Kantaoui is a touristic complex, in the north of Sousse, which includes a modern marina equipped for over 300 boats, an 18 hole golf course as well as a full array of sports from water skiing to riding, in a village-like setting.
The hotels that line the beachfront extend from the Sousse itself along miles of sparkling clean sea to the Port El-Kantaoui. The charm of this white and blue Tunisian style village with its perfectly reproduced medina, never fails to enchant, lending itself to an afternoon stroll through the cobblestone streets to window shop, admire the boats moored in the marina or a refreshing pause at one of the sidewalk cafes. The two story residential apartments that ring the marina observe the same architectural style creating a peaceful and pleasing harmony.
Islamic Country
by kylamees
Don´t forget that Tunisia is Islamic Counry (but it looks very european, especially at nordic side). Don´t give presents that contain alcohol. Don´t critizise people on religion basis - especially if You are not muslim. Don´t enter mosques if You are not muslim or mosque is not specially open for tourists. If You enter Mosque, wear proper clothes (no shorts, shoulders must be covered). Tunisia is not very fundamentally religious country, but it´s always good to appreciate local customs to get friendly welcome.
moving around sousse
by williampatrick
hi ive been many times to sousse and i find there is loads of great eateres in of the back streets just on the big main road up from the beach, good food and great coffee, and local entertainment, the luxury hotels are great as well and friendly and welcoming,
Zoo
by sandysmith
There is a small zoo and botanical park at Port el Kantaoui. Really it looked very poo rstandard - I mean ducks and guinea pigs and camels (actually dromedies as they have one hump)- on view without having to enter. We didn't visit it didn't look at all worthwhile even for the few dinar entrance fee. If you want to visit a zoo then go to Tunis - we passed a lovely one there.
