by Catspjm about The Marhaba Palace

The Marhaba Palace is part of a fairly large chain in Tunisia. I found it to be excellent in all respects and superb value for money. The food was always excellent and varied with a good mix of local and international dishes. The staff was some of the best I have encountered in hotels across the globe. Over all it really was the surprise of the holiday. Superb Pool area that leads onto the beach

Stay at the Marhaba Palace

by A TripAdvisor Member

From reading the mixed reviews of the hotel we were slighly unsure as to what expect. i think actually though this sums up what our final feelings were for the stay - a very mixed bag.

The hotel is a very nice building which could with though be furnished/developed to 5 star accomodation - the possibility for greatness is there. It is however lacking in character - the sports features -tennis court, pitch and putt etc. are run down/not working. The 'five' restaurants and bars are spartan with no real differing character - almost like staying in massive expensive house that your hosts cant quite afford to furnish or have limited imagination. Combined with very limited english tv on room tv (2 news chanels) this results in very few evening entertainment options.

The food having experienced a number of 4/5 star hotels is not typical western 4 star standed. It is along the 'eat as much as you can' variety akin in preparation and quality to the £5 eat as much you can chinese restaurants around leicester square- volume but absolutely not 4 star quality. Also a limited range of ingredients contributed to the same food being presented in different ways.

The other disappointing aspect was tipping. We had not appreciated how overt this was. From our experience - good service comes naturally and we have always been very happy to tip in response to it. At Marhaba however around every corner is someone waiting to undertake a small task to assist you and then wait expectantly/drop hints for a tip. This included all sports facilities at hotel, every meal time for drinks/poolside mattress/advice at reception. What was really disappointing was the marked difference in service/attention if it was not recipricated i.e. the focus of the staff was not on making ones stay as pleasant as possible, it was primarily a quest for tipping.

Nice hotel, nice pool, well proportioned rooms and spaces but not one i think we'd return to.

Marhaha Palace - Port el Kantaoui.

by STEWMASS about Marhaba Palace.

The 4 star Marhaba Palace is without doubt one of the top hotels in the Sousse / Port el Kantaoui region. This is a very imposing hotel right on the beach and is only a short walk from the town centre and marina. The resort was only built around the late 1980's and is quite modern by Tunisian standards. The marina has for example a cosmopolitan feel to it with several bars and restaurants dotted aound with most of the seating outside. Back to the hotel it offers all of the facilities you could wish for and is well worth its 4 star rating in my opinion. We had booked on a half board basis which entitled us to breakfast and dinner each day. The meal choice was outstanding and we were given superb service by the waiters. Our room was also kept spotless by the maid who would also arrange the children's toys in a different manner each day, which was very amusing.

I would definitely recommend this hotel. For those who have never visited Tunisia before, many of the hotels are built like palaces with grand entrance lobbies clad in marble. The Marhaba Palace is no exception. The hotel boats both indoor and outdoor pools and even in the middle of the summer we found it easy to pick our "beds" outside at the pool area.

Gorgeous hotel set in a nice quiet area of Port El Kantaoui, wide range of meals at the buffet something to suit all tastes, not many facilities however there is a nightclub on site which have belly dancers & also a man who lies on a bed of nails aswell as lets people from the audience stab swords into him.... a great show & well worth seeing & of course its free. Stunning views from the room of the lovely beach, Moorish cafe was great with excellent staff, excellent value for money at this hotel, Love the swimming pool, outdoor pool looks lovely & the indoor pool is set at 30 Degrees.

Super Location!!

by Zlur about Marhaba Palace

This hotel is huge, situated on a fine sandy beach and in the heart of the touristic resort called Port el Kantaoui, it's very short walking distance away from the golf course, marina and shopping centre. It's very clean and the staff are extremely helpful! Food is average - breakfast is very vast and good, dinner (if you're half board) is ok, nothing spectacular! My favourite was the desserts - yummy cakes, sorbets etc etc :) Outdoor swimming pool, children pool, indoor pool with separate section for children, Fitness centre, Jacuzzi, sauna, massage, hairdresser and souvenir shop. Salon bar, American bar, pool bar, snack-bar, Moorish café, Bridge room, reading room. 2 Tennis courts, 3 holes practice golf, mini golf, squash court, children playground, games room, discotheque, conference rooms, 27 holes golf course at 300 metres from the hotel, water sports available during summer season.

The best holiday!

by A TripAdvisor Member

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Marhaba Palace Hotel for 10 nights and had the most amazing time!

The rooms and the hotel were completely immaculate, the staff friendly and willing to do anything (even catch a strange bug that was roaming around!!)

There are some lovely restaurants in the Marina where the food and service are excellent and all at great prices.

I would highly recommend this hotel and resort for anyone looking for a relaxing holiday.

loved the atmosphere

The marhaba palace is a perfect hotel if you want a wonderfully relaxing holiday. The staff are great, as is the food. No noisy entertainment, or kids clubs.

by TripAdvisor Member brilin

having stayed at this hotel last sept i am astonished to read some of the reports here.this is definately one of the best hotels we have stayed at the staff where very friendly and helpfull the food was excellent for a hotel abroad.the rooms were clean and comfortable,we were treated like royalty and would have no problem for tunisia itself we found it no worse than turkey as regards pushy shop owners,if you travel to these countrys you have to expect it as its part of their culture i am afraid some people just holiday abroad to moan,we can definately recomend both tunisia and the marhaba palace hotel

Loved Location of hotel

by A TripAdvisor Member

We visited Tunisia on the 4th - 11th December and stayed at the Marhaba Palace Hotel. It was a wonderful hotel, very plush looking and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The rooms are spacious with plenty of wardrobe space, separate toilet and bathroom and a large balcony. The location of the hotel was very convenient and the Marina area is wonderful. We tried out a couple of local restaurants. The more plush ones are much better than the cafes. Although they seemed more expensive compared to the cafes, but it worked out approx. £25 for 2 to eat at one of these plush restaurants. The food in the evening at the hotel is the best, with lots of vegetarian choices. We were lucky enough to have good weather for that time of year (around 65 - 70 degrees most days) but the evenings were chilly. Go see for yourself. A wonderful place.

Brilliant Location

We stayed at the Marhaba Palace from 6-13 November 2005. We had read some quite negative reviews before we travelled but were really very pleasantly surprised. There was such a varied choice for breakfast and dinner we thoroughly enjoyed our meals. A member of the party doesn't eat red meat, but this was not a problem at all, as the veg stir fries were ace! There were various things that were not to my taste but I ate really well the whole week. If anything our only complaint would be that you could not buy a glass of wine with dinner - you had to buy a bottle. If you didn't drink it all you could take it away with you though, which we did!
The hotel room was spacious and the maids did some lovely touches with the curtains and bedcovers as well as doing a great job of cleaning! The tap in the bathroom was a bit wonky but there were plenty of hangars, a regular supply of clean towels and we were pleasantly surprised at how promptly the light bulb was changed and more loo roll supplied. Yes, the staff look for tips and are not backward about coming forward in tnis regard. A few dinars to a Tunisian is a fortune. We didn't go overboard but we know the little we gave for good service - and we did receive good service - was appreciated.

As the hotel is only a few minutes stroll from the harbour it is in an ideal position. Many of the hotels are not really within reasonable walking distance of the harbour especially on a November evening. Yes, the shopkeepers "hassle" you to "browse" in their shops, but smile and give a brisk No! This worked really well for us. Firm but not offensive. The main thing is to smile! Haggling is fine, for a while, but there are also some good fixed price shops which have decent prices.

All in all we would go back to the Marhaba Palace, the location is ace. Don't pay extra for a sea view in November though as the sun is off the balcony really early in the day and we were told it was the chilly side of the hotel.

Marhaba Palace Hotel

by jumbua.s

Hi my friend and are are thinking of going to Tunisia for the Easter holidays, end of March. Has anyone been to the Marhaba Hotel in Port el Kantawi? Is it far from the main tourist attraction. We would like more of a taste of the culture like the souks etc and not interested in touristic areas. Hope its safe for two girls...

RE: Marhaba Palace Hotel

by stormy69

Well, the hotel is right in the middle of Port el Kantawi, and is a decent 4 star hotel. However if you want to tast the culture and things, this is definatly not the place to stay. The whole place is a purpose built "town" just for tourists and we thought it was very tacky. I would receomend somewhere like monastir or even skanes, there isnt a lot to do in skanes, but it is centraly located and easy to get around to all the majour sights. We stayed in Royal Miramar, which we loved, a four star, though probably a bit below Marhaba, but with a much better feel and excellent friendly staff. I have copied a post i did for someone else who wanted to know what to go and see, which is below. Tunisia is a very safe country and very used to girls traveling alone.
We stayed in Skanes a couple of years ago and it is a great location to get around and visit the country. I would receomend Tunis - amazing city with some very elegant areas - a bit like Paris with a arabic twist, from there it is easy to get to the ancient city of Carthage, just jump on the metro.
Another great day out is El Jem - the biggest colousem out side Rome and where the movie gladiator was filmed. While there also visit the mosaic museum which is amazing. I think we got the train there.
Monastir is worth a visit and is only a short taxi ride away, i would also recomed Sousse if you havent already been and Hammamet which is one of the best beach areas but also has a good medina and other atractions.
It is also possible to do Matmata as a day trip - just, but requires a very early start. I dont normaly recomend organised tours, but it might be worth doing this as one if it is combined with a desert safari which normaly takes 3 days. Matmata was made famous by Star Wars as it is underground dwellings where the berbers still live. For night life, try Port El Kantuoi - totally artificial tourist area, and not one i would want to stay at, but best option for any real nightlife. It is about half a hour from Skanes and has some nice restraunts and bars.
Hope this helps

Hello there
i stayed at the Marhaba Palace in Dec. it is a fantastic hotel with a gfreat 4 star rating for sure. The pool area is really clean aswell as the indoor pool. I really enjoyed the food too, lots of variety at meal times.

If your on a half board basis and want to go out for dinner one evening in the marina you can have your lunch in the buffet room instead so that you do not miss out on your evening meals. The accommodation is really clean, well kept rooms and try to get a sea view room when you arrive... the view is amazing at sunset.
Take a look at my tips for more information.
