Hotel Orient Palace, Sousse.
Great facilities, three swimming pools (1 of them for children), animation, 5 restaurants and 6 bars. Nice trio playing music almost every evening. A disco worth its name.

This hotel as well as every other hotel we stayed in while in Tunisia, was comfortable, well staffed, good if not gourmet food, good attention in general.
Lots of facilities and on arrival you are greeted with drinks and fantastic help to get the best out of your holiday This hotel was really nice, the indoor pool and out door pools leading to beautiful gardens and amazing beaches just at your reach. It was so fantastic to just have dinner and go for a romantic walk on the beach or decide to wake up one morning and explore the gardens leading to the out door fields and bushes. The tours are amazing , it is a must to take the camel rides and go do the traditional bread making .
I took Aeroflot plane that, after some 4 and 1/2 hours' flight landed in the International Aeroport Habib Bourguiba of Monastir. Then - bags taken, border formalities settled and... off to the hotel we go.
I stayed at the Hotel Orient Palace - a 5-star establishment on the way from the centre of Sousse to the pleasure port of Tunisia - Port El Kantaoui. A very good place to stay, with excellent service and all the modern facilities. For more, see my 'Accomodation' tip on Tunisia
The first place I went to, immediately after unpacking some of my things (those most necessary for swimming)
The second place I've headed to, with things to do and to see in abbundance, because Sousse is an old city. It was founded in the 9th century BC by the Phoenicians, who gave it the name Hadrumet. It’s one of the oldest ports of the Mediterranean. Later Hannibal used Hadrumet as his military base at end of the Second Punic War (218-201 BC) and was beaten. During the Third Punic War they changed over to the side of the Romans thus avoiding destruction and gaining status of a free city. In 46 BC Julius Caesar fought against Pompeii in Thapsus and the town of Hadrumet choose the wrong side. Caesar won the battle and imposed heavy taxation on the town. Later under the rule of Emperor Trajan (98-117), the town became a important commerce centre.
One of the first sights you have to see. Built in 8th-9th centuries, it is austere (as are most, but not all, Tunisian mosques) and elegant. You can visit the courtyard (on this photo), walk along the corridors under the arches (next photo) and get a glimpse of the inside through the doors that are left open. To visit it you have to wear proper clothes, but you can get them as a loan at the entrance.
Another extremely interesting spot, located inside the Medina. It was built in 820 AD by Muslims (Aghlabites) to secure the town. The architecture is quite simple: a square fort with a single tower. Many small rooms, which were garrisoned by warrior monks, protecting the Muslim population and religious centres against invaders. Nice view from the tower over the town, if you’re not afraid of heights (27 m) and conjested traffic of your fellow tourists on the stairs:))) The fort is in excellent condition.
