I stayed in Gulu at the end of August, 2008. The city of Gulu itself has turned a corner is in on a rebound. The civil war is over and the city very safe.
The staff is very helpful. The owner and employees are of Christian persuasion which is helpful because most visitors are there for humanitarian reasons.
The hotel is very clean, well run and safe. It also serves breakfast with the room and offers good local meals. The prices are great. The hotel staff did a small load of laundry for me for 2 dollars.
The hotel is a 4 story new building right in the middle of a village of grass roof huts so you hear village noises, babies crying and such at all hours. If you are on one of the top floors, go out on the balcony and you get some great photos. You feel like you're in the village.
