Apartments for rent: Much more cheaper than the hotels

    Yes, why spending lots of money for hotels if renting apartment costs cheap. This is Naalya, residential suburb of Kampala, situated about 10-15 kms far from the city centre. There are lots of apartments for rent here, starting from 100 up to 1.000 euros per month, and it makes 3 or 33 euros per day. The cheapest but decent hotel in Kampala cost 25 dollars per day, and its room with bathroom only.
    Here you get kitchen, bathroom, dining room and one or more badrooms for les money.

    Naalya is very safe area......

    One of the best places I have ever stayed. The two days I spent in Mweya were mesmerising. In the middle of the National Park with animals roaming just out side ..to the beautiful sunset and the freshening sunshine. Everything was just magical !!!

    When I first saw it, the next day I came to Kampala, my intention was to move here from the place I rented the apartment. Speke hotel is perfectly positioned, in the heart of the city, and looks very attractive. It is relatively small hotel, the kind I like.

    So, I went inside to check for a room and the price. There was couple of people, behind the reception desk, but nobody approached to ask me what I want. After few minutes passed, the guy came and adressed to me asking me what I want. He wasn't kind, in a normal way guest expect it and his answers were all but polite.
    I quit of moving here because nice and polite hotel staff is what I am expecting to have. Besides, later on I changed my money here in a couple of times and each time had encounter with unpolite staff.

    Hotel Margherita is situated some few kilometers west of Kasese town, Western Uganda in the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains otherwise known as the "Mountains of the Moon".

    I have stayed here for two days in 2005. This hotel is in the foot hills of Rewenzori Mountains and is one of the best in this location. You can see the mountains far off from your room. There is a huge lawn where you can spent your time gazing the landscape around. A cosy place to stay with very friendly staff members makes this place even special. The Queen Elizabeth National park is just a 30 mins drive from here.

    For visitors contemplating excursions within the region it is also ideally located for visits to Queen Elizabeth National Park, and is a popular night stop for those travelling onto or from Kibale Forest, Semliki, the Gorilla parks in the south west and Murchison falls in the north.

    I stayed in this resort for 4 days, it was during the month of Dec' 2005. The resort was not crowded at all and there were plenty rooms available. The rooms are reasonably big, but during the night time, you could see all sorts of insects just outside the rooms, due to its proxomity to the lake. The lake view is very pleasant and refreshing. The rooms are modern and cosy. The room service is late, as the restaurants are quite a distance away from the rooms.

    This resort is about 45mins from the city of Kampala and about 1 Hr and 10 mins drive from the Entebbe Airport.

    You can take you time out for a boat ride or go for fishing. There is a stable in the resort and you can hire a horse. The pool is large and the water clean. Overall the stay was pleasant.

    • Great hostel with bunkhouse, camping and lodge facillities. Clean, good bar, decent food (breakfast/snacks and meals) with a helpful family atmosphere.

    There are not too many hostels within the Kampala area. This is a good one.

    Washing facilities, bar, free internet and helpfull advice from Steve. They can organise gorilla treks and rafting on the Nile.

    Highly recommended.

    Eden Rock Resort is placed just a few kilometers from Jinja and next to Bujagalli Falls (where the White Nile rafting takes place). Run by a very friendly women from Cyprus (relative of the might and forgotten Demis Roussos) it has 8 simple but clean bandas with bath facilities inside placed ina anice garden just behing the main building. In August 2003, one week prior to our arrival, this place had the joy to host prince William of England! Best of all was at night, staying under the light of candles in the dinning room with Maria and her sons and having nice and long chats!

    Very nicely built small hotel with excellent views of the falls.

    I stayed in Kabira Country Club in Feb 2006. This is in Bukoto, about 2 Km from the city center. Kabira Country Club offers different kinds of rooms / service apartments. It has a swimming pool, a conference hall, a well equipped gym and a sauna/jacuzzi etc. There is also a Tennis Court & Basketball Court. Overall the place gives a homely feel.

    • Hotel Equitoria is in downtown kampala. One of the accessible hotels, but in a crowded location. It is also a cheaper hotel compared to the rest. The rooms and service in the hotel is adequate. Due to its proximity to the heart of the city, you can venture out and walk down the street and do your shopping in nearby areas. It is very near to the wholesale and textile markets.Overall an average place to stay.

    The place is very beautiful, has got a huge restaurant area with a great atmosphere and a swimming pool! (I found it quite anonymous, though, as it was so huge, and I was alone...).
    Very basic dorm beds (with mosquito netting) for $ 6 a night (maybe a bit overpriced compared to similar accomodations). Cottages seemed quite nice though. Also possibility to put up your tent.

    Highly recommended for a dinner or drink, and to stay especially for groups and families!

    - Backpacker's Hostel (haven't been there)
