TROPICAL RETREAT IN THE CITY
If you want to stay in a luxurious hotel in Kampala, here it is. The Sheraton is located in some beautiful tropical gardens providing a cool oasis of tranquillity in the heart of the city. The grounds are so nice, that this is the place for wedding and receptions here in Kampala. The hotel has 218 guest rooms, 11 meeting spaces, 2 bars, 4 restaurants, a gorgeous outside pool and a gym. Rooms are very nicely appointed and have all the latest gadgets and comforts.

Recently renovated
I was lucky to get a suite on the top floor facing the city. Great views of central Kampala and surrounding hills. It seems that the roms have all been renovated by now but some of the other areas around the pool still need some work. Construction work is going on (noiselessly)around the clock in order to get eveything looking nice when the British Queen comes to visit Kampala in November 2007 at the CHOGM (Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting) event.
Drawbacks: no wireless internet in the rooms! Very patchy roomservice: excellent one evening, less than mediocre the next.
Unique Quality: Very stylish renovation, classy hotel overall
Nice gardens where you can watch Ugandan couples have their wedding photos taken.

Live in comfort
Unique Quality: The Sheraton is one of the best hotels in Kampala with great service, food and gardens. Its in the middle of the city which I think is great coz quiet places get dull and boring. The Rhino Pub downstairs is always a buzz on the weekends so be sure to check it out. Ladies keep your handbags close as the crowd gets bigger. Gentlemen beware of the 'ladies of the night'...Aids has no cure! There's a gym and a pool so you have no excuse!

Kampala's skyscraper
At the time of writing (October 2005), the hotel was still in the process of undergoing renovation works, meaning that some rooms were still not up to Sheraton standards.
This hotel is a franchise operation, but this is hardly noticeable.
There might be some music background noise from nearby bars depending on which side your room is facing.

Kampala's #1 NGO Stop
The Sheraton was a very nice place to stay. All though it is being renovated, there are a number of floors that have been finished. A word of advice, make sure you get a room on the opposite side of the bar/disco. If not, you will be up until 3 or 4 in the morning.
Unique Quality: The restaurants are incredible. The health club is the best I have ever been to, connected with a hotel.
