Located just off the busy Place Dchira, a busy square with restaurants and cafes south of the centre, and close to the bus company offices, the Hotel Zemmour is a good place for those on a budget. Three floors of rooms with shared bathroom facilities, with a cafe down below, the Zemmour has the advantage of single rooms...as a single traveller, I usually have to pay double for a twin room. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout my stay.
Not the cheapest place in laayoune (try those hotels in the Souk ez-Zaj and Souk el-Jamal for that), but certainly not expensive at 70DH a night (approx. 12 dirhams = £1)
The one downside is the shared bathroom facilities. Each floor has 3 toilets which is enough, but only one shower. The hotel seems to have several long-term guests in Laayoune for work, and they get up at the crack of dawn, so rooms next to the shower end up being quite noisy, with water running from 5am onwards. On one night, the hotel also hosted a local football team, who sort of took over the whole floor in the morning and evening, making it very difficult to get into the shower! Noise can also be a problem here, as doors do tend to slam no matter how quiet you try to be...but after a 9 hour bus ride from Dakhla, I was ready to sleep through everything.
