Mamaba Camp Livingston by ecoquester We crossed on the ferry from Kasane (Botswana) to Livingston (Zambia) and drove only 60KM today which was a welcome break, We happened across this campsite quite by mistake, and very happy we took the time to look at it.
We camped by the river, lovely and quiet, lots of space around each well laid out camp area, clean and well presented ablutions, very nice bar and restaurant, and best of all a swimming pool, the children could at last vent some of the energy they had to live with for the past few days. Wildcamping, Zambezi by Rusket We stayed two nights on islands in the river, hearing the sounds from arguing baboons, hippos, hyenas and other animals. The first night was gorgeous! The moonlight was so strong, we did not need our flashlifgts. The second night the moon rose later, which gave us a great opportunity to watch the stars. Orion was right above us, and since there were no disturbing lightsources, we could see a lot more stars than we are used to. We even saw a couple of passing satllites. The only negative thing was the hords of moscitos, which made us go to bed early. The first night we slept 10 hours, but the second morning we were woken up early by "millions" of buzzing bees! Remember to bring a spade and toilet paper when going wildcamping, we were not allowed to "do it" in the open without burying it, that could attract animals! And it isn't nice to be the next group of people coming, either!! Theme: OtherAddress: Zambezi River

We loved this hotel, it met all our needs perfectly. It's almost Morrocan architecture is cleverly balance by the Zambian influence to create a wonderful African ambience. It is a colourful and clean, the later being an absolute priority for me when looking to stay at a hotel. Expect to be greeted by African dancers and a well earned glass of juice. Food was good, staff friendly and helpful. Music was by lunch and dinner. A swimming pool to chill out in and a lake to beware of the crocs by. Rooms were more than adaquate and clean as was the bathroom. Air conditioning in the rooms and satellite TV for those of you who really must but really shouldn't in a place like this. The hotel is situated a stones throw from the falls and right next the the Livingston Hotel, where I would suggest everyone goes to, if only to sit on the river front bar for sunset drinks, watch the water turn various shades of red and keep your eye out for elephant crossing and hippo peeking out from under the water. It is possible to book all your excursions and activities from the hotel and I would advise you do so early as places sell out very quickly, in fact if you can book before you arrive, then do so.
Perfectly sited near to the falls and near to the river bar at the Livingstone Hotel. Theme: HotelAddress: Victoria Falls, Livingston, Zambia

When you are looking for an accommodation to stay in Livingstone or the Vic Falls area, the Zambezi Waterfront is a very good option. It's located at about 4 kilometers from the city centre of Livingstone, at the banks of the river. From the campsite you can get to the Falls in 15 minutes and you can even see the "smoke" of them. The area itself is wonderfully designed. A little creek goes through the Waterfront, green lawns and tall trees cover the rest of the area. Every morning you are woken up my monkeys in the trees above you, fighting for a piece of fruit, and every evening you can sit at the bar, looking out over the river. The Waterfront has its own restaurant, that I didn't try, an own "internet-cafe", an agency where you can book activities, and a small souvenir shop. Taxi's to the Falls, to Livingstone or to the Victoria Falls Bridge can be arranged at the reception. Every night a river cruise departs from the Waterfront, where you can eat on the boat, spot some wildlife and enjoy the sunset. This cruise will cost you US € 30,-. On the area you can sleep in lodges, in your own tent or in "luxury tents" that are already set up for you and have beds in them. I slept in one of the luxury tents, which were a nice place to sleep.
The unique quality of the Zambezi Waterfront are the hot showers. I was here in July, when it's winter in Zambia and the nights can be very cold. Then it's very nice to have a hot shower in the morning. Something that you don't see often in Africa.

We set up camp by the river Kafue right next to Gwabi Lodge, where Froggy was going to wait for us. Elge was too afraid of crocodiles to join us on the river, he crawled into my locker inside Froggy, and decided he was a bear who would sleep a couple of days until we returned. A lot of men were swarming around the camp offering to do our laundry. We usually did our own laundry in our mobile bathroom bucket, but upon our return from the river it was a relief to leave it to one of them, while we took a looong shower :-) Picture of the Gwabi Camp site. This was our first stop accommodation before embarking on a cycle tour of Zambia. It was a welcome break after a long journey. Clean and comfortable and even a few zebra roaming in the grounds. Our hut had an en-suite, albeit not too private but when travelling in Backpacker mode, I am not sure it's too much of a hardship. There is a bar and facility to change money up too. The Zambezi Sun is a 212-room hotel appealing primarily to families and conference delegates. The guest rooms acknowledge their African roots in the deep rich red earth colour of the rounded planes of its walls. In the early evening the dark outline of the hotel is set against iridescent curls of smoky vapour that dance above its roofline.
The resort is situated in the 46-hectare Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Wildlife Park, which fringes the Zambezi River

Although this new accommodation is not due to officially open until June 2009, the owners decided that with 25 cyclists roaming around Livingston, they would do the natives a favour and take us off of the streets. Newly refurbished, this clean, well facilitated accommodation really is ideal for a stay in Livingstone. It has a pool, climbing wall and beach bar too and shading is provided by mango trees. Communal ablution blocks, approximately 8 people to two toilets and 2 showers.... the showers are fabulous. If you know Zambia, or Africa in fact, a good strong shower can be hard to come by, these equate to power showers in comparison to some we had used during our travels in Zambia. There is a communal kitchen and a pool table. It is possible to make bookings here for trips and activities. A short trip from both Livingstone and the Falls, there are also local shops and banks. It might be worth noting that Master Card is NOT readily accepted but Debit cards are at the banks.
Very friendly, clean and ideally situated. This is the sister accommodation to Fawlty Towers in Livingstone. Five star accommodation all the way. Where else would you be enjoying high tea and watch the zebra's graze or be on the lookout for the little naughty monkeys who is eagerly waiting for you to take your eye off the cake so they can come and steal it off your plate.

The Village of Kaloma found itself over run with cyclists and hence it's hostels and hotels taken over. Some of us stayed at Zu's whilst others were shipped out to two other stop overs, I was dropped off at First Choice. This accommodation was not yet finished being built when we arrived, however, there were a couple of new rooms which I and my room mate had the good fortune to inhabit for our stay. Again clean but only one mosquito net, so worth taking your own whilst travelling around Zambia, often you find you need to provide your own. The second amusement was that the shower room is in fact in the bedroom and has a clear glass door, so not any privacy whatsoever, be prepared for complete exhibitionism or taking it in turns to use the bedroom and shower room whilst the other hovers about outside. Our room was clean, had a tv provided but no wiring to it and even a stand on the wall for it but the risk of it falling off meant it was balance on a chair instead. All part of visiting Africa in my book, so please take your sense of humour with you. The older part of this accommodation is really rather 'cell' like and is communal bathroom and toilet also.
