Jollyboys: Best Backpackers

by cleocat

I like comfort when away from home and normally pay more to have an ensuite bathroom and other little luxuries. With a small budget and crazy hotel prices in the Vic Falls area we decided to take a leap of faith and try Jollyboys. None of the hotels can create the atmosphere Jollyboys has. It is relaxed and fun.

It is also definitely not only for the young. Families and older travelers from all over go to Jollyboys.

The pool and bar area is the best and everybody hang around there. The rooms are very basic but perfect.

Drinks and food can be bought from the bar and you can pay in rands or other currencies. No need to even exchange money.

The brilliant staff play a huge part in the success of this establishment. They know everything and they are super helpful and friendly.

Everything is perfect.

Kozo Lodge: Choma Village Accommodation

by Acirfa

Great accommodation after a long hard cycle....um all except those inviting and large looking showers did not live up to expectation. Just trickling cold water to wash off the dust and grime did not surfice but the beds were clean and comfy and mosquito nets provided.

Here there was a bar and indeed we enjoyed African dancing from the local drama club in the evening.

Zu's: Kaloma's Best.

by Acirfa

I did not in fact stay here, I stayed at First Choice but ate both evening meal and breakfast at this Guest house. The food provided by the chef travelling with us.

It appeared clean and tidy but rooms I cannot comment on. It met our requirements as a cycling team.

Zu's Full - Second choice is.....: .... First Choice

by Acirfa

The Village of Kaloma found itself over run with cyclists and hence it's hostels and hotels taken over. Some of us stayed at Zu's whilst others were shipped out to two other stop overs, I was dropped off at First Choice.

This accommodation was not yet finished being built when we arrived, however, there were a couple of new rooms which I and my room mate had the good fortune to inhabit for our stay. Again clean but only one mosquito net, so worth taking your own whilst travelling around Zambia, often you find you need to provide your own. The second amusement was that the shower room is in fact in the bedroom and has a clear glass door, so not any privacy whatsoever, be prepared for complete exhibitionism or taking it in turns to use the bedroom and shower room whilst the other hovers about outside.
Our room was clean, had a tv provided but no wiring to it and even a stand on the wall for it but the risk of it falling off meant it was balance on a chair instead. All part of visiting Africa in my book, so please take your sense of humour with you.

The older part of this accommodation is really rather 'cell' like and is communal bathroom and toilet also.

Backpackers Guest House: Livingston's Rest Place

by Acirfa

Although this new accommodation is not due to officially open until June 2009, the owners decided that with 25 cyclists roaming around Livingston, they would do the natives a favour and take us off of the streets.

Newly refurbished, this clean, well facilitated accommodation really is ideal for a stay in Livingstone. It has a pool, climbing wall and beach bar too and shading is provided by mango trees.

Communal ablution blocks, approximately 8 people to two toilets and 2 showers.... the showers are fabulous. If you know Zambia, or Africa in fact, a good strong shower can be hard to come by, these equate to power showers in comparison to some we had used during our travels in Zambia.

There is a communal kitchen and a pool table.

It is possible to make bookings here for trips and activities.

A short trip from both Livingstone and the Falls, there are also local shops and banks. It might be worth noting that Master Card is NOT readily accepted but Debit cards are at the banks.

Very friendly, clean and ideally situated. This is the sister accommodation to Fawlty Towers in Livingstone.

Eureka Bush Camp: Lusaka Wilderness

by Acirfa

This was our first stop accommodation before embarking on a cycle tour of Zambia. It was a welcome break after a long journey.
Clean and comfortable and even a few zebra roaming in the grounds.
Our hut had an en-suite, albeit not too private but when travelling in Backpacker mode, I am not sure it's too much of a hardship.

There is a bar and facility to change money up too.

We stayed at the Zambezi Sun and had a fantastic time.

Royal Livingstone: Living like the stars

Five star accommodation all the way. Where else would you be enjoying high tea and watch the zebra's graze or be on the lookout for the little naughty monkeys who is eagerly waiting for you to take your eye off the cake so they can come and steal it off your plate.
