The best place to stay in the Lusaka area is: Lilayi (pronounced 'li-LAI') Lodge, without question. I've listed details below. As always, there are varying levels of accommodations. The Pamodzi ($120 USD), the Hotel Intercontinental ($110 USD), and the Holiday Inn ($100 USD) are the high-end places. Of these, I recommend the Holiday Inn because it has the best retaurant of the three (The Golden Spur--A South African version of Tex-Mex (huh?!)) and because it is marginally cheaper than the others. Mid-scale lodging (~$45 USD) include two places that I know. First is the Lusaka Hotel directly in the center of downtown. It's a comfortable sleep, but unless you have transportation prearranged, I wouldn't venture out at night from there. The second place is pretty wonderful, and I recommend it if you can afford it. It is called the Fairview. It's set on the north side of Independence Avenue, in one of the greener, residential sections of town. It has a patio that is the only one I know of in Lusaka that is upstairs and outside. If you are planning on camping, then Eureka campgrounds are the place to be. They are located outside of the city, about 15 Km southwest, a straight shot south on Cairo Road, which turns into Kafue Road after the last roundabout in town. They'll be on the left. There's a small white sign that says Eureka, and then you will have to pitch and roll over some dirt roads for a spell. They have hot running water, and clean facilities. And there's a nice watering hole there, really kind of family-oriented. From my experience, regular patrons of the place were not too keenly embracing of Black Zambians, though. The price is reasonable (~$80 USD), nay, excellent for the value of the accommodations. You get more than your money's worth.
Lilayi Lodge is set in a small game reserve with giraffes, at least a dozen species of antelope, including the great Kudu, my favorite, and zebra, monkeys, and assorted other wildlife. When I really needed respite, I stayed there, woke up with dawn, and drank coffee and conversed with the Vervet monkeys scrambling around my hut. Gorgeous setting for sunset refreshments also. No TV, which is a plus! Theme: OtherDirections: Lilayi is located directly south-southwest of Lusaka proper. Take Cairo Road toward Kafue. After the last roundabout in town, Cairo Road turns into Kafue Road. Proceed another 15 minutes or soOther Contact: Food is expensive at Lil

I dont remember it that well, but I do remember the pool and the bar! It was comfortable affordable, and had everything you need. If you don't want to stay right in the city of Lusaka, this would be the place to stay. Good hotel; friendly staff. The gym is really excellent by hotel standards. Only hiccup tends to be at check-in which can take forever - and the dial-up internet is very unreliable. Broadband is OK but can be expensive. I think its the best of the "upmarket" hotels. It is more lively than the Pomodzi and more spacious than the Holiday Inn. The Taj Pamodzi is a 5-star hotel situated in a somewhat inconvenient location in Lusaka. The hotel has everything that a business/pleasure travelor needs - in-room internet access, two nice restaurants, a decent bar, health club, and good service; good service that you end up paying for. It is important to note that the Taj Pamodzi kindly adds a 10% "services fee" to all charges as you are checking out. In my experience, I was not warned in advance of this charge, nor was it transparently represented on my bill. In the midst of a classy hotel, I found this charge somewhat disconcerting and something that should be noted for all visitors to this hotel.
There is little "unique" about the Taj Pamodzi, though the grounds are well kept and staff are friendly and outgoing. Theme: HotelPrice: US$120-180 » Currency ConverterComparison: most expensiveAddress: PO Box 35450

Attentive staff and really good food. They also have a killer buffet, which is a bit on the expensive side, but so is everything in hotels.

A great place to stay, they have a swimming pool, either camping or small huts, great food, sightseeing trips to the National Park right next door
Sit by the river and watch the Hippos, or watch the elephants walk thru the camp at night

Holiday Inn - the same everywhere! by Greatwalk0 The fact that Lusaka had a Holiday Inn came as a surprise to me. I was so surprised that, though I was not staying there, I took a tour of the lobby and asked to see one of the rooms. Sure enough! Pretty standard fair (all Holiday Inn's look alike ... for the most part). The hotel complex is complete with bar and restaurant and the rooms appeared very standard. What was not standard about the hotel was the price, which was at a premium. I found nothing that would compel me to stay at the Holiday Inn Lusaka, but if you are looking for a hotel without much personality (but safe) during your stay in Lusaka, this might be a good bet.

Holiday Inn Lusaka by MikeAtSea From my experience in Lusaka this is one of the best hotels to stay in. Centrally located, large and comfortable rooms and other amenities, such as pool, sauna and gardens around it. They even have Baby Nile Crocodiles in a pond in the courtyard of the hotel...
A travel agent, Avis Car Hire and British Airways ticket office as well as a Curio shop are also part of the hotel. The Intercontinental Hotel in Lusaka, Zambia by Kid-A Of the 2 hotels I ventured into in Lusaka, this one is the one I recommend staying in. I was in Lusaka on business, and stayed at the Taj Pamodzi, but this one gets the same type of clientele -- basically people in town on business. I just found the look and feel of this hotel a little nicer than the Taj.
They boast the best health club in Lusaka, highlighted by cardio machines, weights, aerobics classes and a wall of windows overlooking the pool. More than 20 different types of massage are offered. It was a pretty nice health club! For tennis people like me, they also have 3 pretty nice hard courts. :) Theme: HotelPrice: US$120-180 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: Haile Selassie Avenue, Lusaka 32201Phone: +260-1-250000
