Hummmm ... InterContinental?

If this hotel is, in fact, a part of the InterContinental chain, then it is the worst example of an InterCon that I have ever experienced.

The rooms are boring and mine has carpet that looks like it hasn't been cleaned in years. The service is stand-offish. The hotel bar is pathetic. I just cant find positive qualities about this hotel and am, frankly, shocked that it has the InterContinental name.

Stay at the Taj.

Unique Quality: Poor service; bleak/uninspiring rooms; poor service

best in town, in my opinion

Of the 2 hotels I ventured into in Lusaka, this one is the one I recommend staying in. I was in Lusaka on business, and stayed at the Taj Pamodzi, but this one gets the same type of clientele -- basically people in town on business.

I just found the look and feel of this hotel a little nicer than the Taj.

Unique Quality: They boast the best health club in Lusaka, highlighted by cardio machines, weights, aerobics classes and a wall of windows overlooking the pool. More than 20 different types of massage are offered. It was a pretty nice health club!

For tennis people like me, they also have 3 pretty nice hard courts. :)

One of usaka's best

Good hotel; friendly staff. The gym is really excellent by hotel standards. Only hiccup tends to be at check-in which can take forever - and the dial-up internet is very unreliable. Broadband is OK but can be expensive.

I think its the best of the "upmarket" hotels. It is more lively than the Pomodzi and more spacious than the Holiday Inn.

Another Intercontinental

Built on virtually identical lines to the Nairobi Intercontinental which, after leaving one and going to the other, can be somewhat confusing. A good clean hotel only 2 miles away from downtown. It has all the usual features of a good Intercontinental including a adequate breakfast included in the price which, if booked on line, is quite a good deal.

Unique Quality: Being a little way out of town it is very quiet with very little to do or see, in the immeadiate vicinity of the hotel

Business Travel

The Intercontinental Hotel in Lusaka is located in the center of the city ... thirty minutes from the airport and is a completely self-sufficient location for the business traveler. I spent two nights there recently and stayed on the Club floor. The rooms are well-appointed, the bathrooms dark and richly detailed and the service excellant.

Unique Quality: There is a large pool which is a welcome feature during the intense dry heat of the day. The Plantation restaurant wraps around one side of the pool deck and serves a good lunch. Dinner at the Intercontinental is nothing to rave about ... but one hardly feels like complaining in a country that was at the time suffering from famine and drought. If you are in Lusaka for business and have a reasonable budget - try the Intercontinental. Have a cool drink by the pool and refresh yourself .
