The Chrismar is a relatively new upscale hotel located between downtown Livingstone and Victoria Falls. We stayed there for three nights and were very pleased with it.
Our room was very large (actually a suite) and included a front sitting room, a large bedroom, and a large modern bathroom with a separate bathtub and shower. The ceilings in the room were very high (15+ feet), giving the room an even larger feeling. The rooms are housed in a series of detached buildings featuring thatched roofs.
The hotel was designed for conferences, and has good facilities. There are two swimming pools. One has a bar located in an island in its middle - you can cross a bridge to it (if you want to stay dry) or swim up to it. The other swimming pool has a bar and restaurant adjacent to it. There is also a restaurant in the main reception building, where breakfast (included in the rate) was served every day. The breakfasts were good, with eggs and pancakes cooked to order, accompanied by a wide selection of other hot and cold items.
Our favorite thing about the hotel was its extremely friendly and helpful staff. The concierge was helpful in booking activities for us (day trip to Botswana, Zambezi riverboat cruise, etc.). The front desk staff, porters, bartenders, cooks, and waiters were all a pleasure to deal with.
Because it is not right on the falls, the Chrismar is much, much less expensive than the Zambezi Sun and Royal Livingstone, the better-known upscale hotels in town. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to other travelers looking for good value in an upscale hotel in Livingstone.
