JollyBoys guesthouse in Livingstone

Jollyboys has been in business since 1995, and is run by backpackers for backpackers. According to their website it's the "quintessential backpackers lodge in Zambia" It could have been like that if they didn't have the most expensive beer and soft drinks in the town. But the guesthouse is centrally located. The lobby and the common areas are cool and original. The camping and dorms are basic and reasonable priced (from 10 USD and up). The private rooms and ensuite rooms are OK, with shower/hot water. The rooms are 50 USD and up, which is not in the price level for backpackers.

The facilities at Jollyboys are better than average.
- They have a garden with mango, banana, avocado, papaya, guava and lemon trees.
- Bicycle Hire is available.
- Table tennis table.
- Pool table.
- Swimming pool.
- Travel and activities booking office (high prices).

Unique Quality: They do not accept children under 12 at the backpackers. But they have another location at 80 S Chipembi Road where children can stay.

The internet connection is very slow, and it was almost impossible to load my hotmail account when I was there in 2009.

Good Backpackers

I enjoyed my stay here, lots of organised tours and things to do. its was clean ( think kitchen can do with an upgrade) but it had all you need.
Pool, Bar, clean rooms and bathrooms, internet, If you need chemist( pharmacy) just infront of jollys gate is gravel road walk down past tourist info caravan to a big building, that has a chemist with meds.
You can buy breakfast and meals at jollys, they accept at the bar USD< PULA< ZAR<EURO<POUNDS
Jollys DO NOT do money exchange, you can do that at post office.
The place is secure... with security guard, has camping space( just one tent next to the other) and I think you pay for parking space if you have a car... not sure.
Staff were very helpful and friendly! They can do your laundry ( or do your own)
People of all ages here...lots of older people as well as the younger people.
Free airport collection , ask gate keeper to get taxi for your return ( 25,000 to 30, 000 kwacha)
Free drop off daily at 10am at vic falls , collect taxi back ( 25,000 to 30,000 kwacha) or a few can share... split the costs, or you can take the mini bus taxi, loads you off at market in Livingstone.
I will include travelogue with more pic of jolly boys
Double rooms had mosquito nets.
beds were comfortable in double rooms. Bedding was clean. They dont clean room every day but you can request it to be cleaned.
meals at jollys and surround could be got from 25,000 to 50, 000 kwacha , coke at jollys was 3,000 kwacha, water 2,500 kwacha

Unique Quality: They have a bin where you can deposit old clothes that they send to a orphanage, so PLEASE bring with especially any old childrens clothes you have at home, you can also bring pens, childrens books, crayons and deposot this in the box. They can also give you details to visit the orphanage, a taxi can take you and bring you back again.
If each person visiting this backpacker can just bring with a few extra items for the children then thay can all get clothed.

Cheap, cool hostel in Livingstone

I did not stay here, but I stopped in for some information. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.

It looked like a pretty good hostel!

And check out their website. It's really well done.

THE BACKPACKERS OF CHOICE

These folks are legendary. Even in Namibia and Zimbabwe. When I wanted to go to a Halloween party in Zimbabwe, the locals said it was better at Jollyboys in Zambia! I had a friend in Namibia who could not go into Botswana without paying $100 on her way to Victoria Falls. No problem. She rang Jollyboys and they arranged a collection at the border at Katima Mulilo. 3 friends of mine have stayed there and booked excursions, mostly rafting, and enjoyed everything about Jollyboys. I went for a visit and they were super organised and friendly. They are THE people to talk to for transport to and from Livingstone and an adventure or two whilst you are here.

Unique Quality:
* Well organised for local adventures
* Will pick you up at the Namibia Border
* Pool
* Good rooms/facilities

My favourite backpackers place ever!

I really enjoyed my stay at the Jolly Boys. It located close to the town center, right next to the Livingstone museum and only some 15 minutes drive from Victoria Falls. You can choose from dorms, double rooms and camping. The prices in the Boys are extremely affordable.

Activities/facilities at the Jollyboys include:
- Swimming pool
- Gardens full of mango, banana, avocado, papaya, guava and lemon trees
- Free pool table
- Free table tennis table
- Free pickup from Livingstone Airport
- Internet/email facilities
- Bicycle rental

Unique Quality: The best feature is the laid back atmosphere. Meet other travelers.
