Bumi Hill Lodge -- and related...

Bumi Hill Lodge -- and related experiences...
About $200 dollars a night.

A perfect African style resort, Bumi Hills is nestled in the hills above the beautiful Lake Kariba. You can look down from your private hut and see gorgeous sinsets, romaing elephants, etc. Each day, after receiving fresh juice at your doorstep, you will sign up to be dropped in various animal viewing stations, including: salt lick and tree house. Alternatively, you can sign up for a sunset cruise, walking safari, driving safari -- or even ask to be dropped for a night's stay at 'Water Wildnerness' a group of houseboats that have been converted into a 'lodge' from which you can do water safaris. Finally, you can finish off your stay with a night or two at Fothergill Island -- another nice accommodation located at a different part of the Lake Kariba. From Fothergill, we did a great walking safari during which we circled a rhino, from a distance of just about 30 feet.

When staying at Victoria...

When staying at Victoria Falls, my first choice Inn -- the Victoria Falls Lodge -- might not be available. In that case, a great second-choice is the Zambeze River Lodge.

African architecture, freindly staff, good food (although not quite the same as the Vic Falls Lodge nightly barbecue). I recall a good chicken dish with peanut sauce served at their restaurant.

Victoria Falls Hotel: Victoria Falls Hotel

Could not tell a price as we stayed in the campground.

It's a colonial days historic hotel which does nice buffet style breakfast. If you got the means you can relive Stanleys and Livingstones days.

Stayed in Self Catering Chaletes at the Deka Fishing Camp. I am not sure if it open to the public ,you might have to go with a member of the club (My Mothers brother took us along)
Cost R250 for a 3 man chalette for 1 week. BEAT that

The Zambezi. No tourists , peace and quiet . Excellent fishing. Croc and hippo viewing all the time.

We stayed at the Victoria...

We stayed at the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, which was very nice. But the best part was its on-site watering hole. We saw baboons, elephant, impala, kudu at the watering hole. And the grounds had monkeys, mongoose and warthogs wandering about. One morning I woke to find a cape buffalo grazing not to far from my balcony.

The picture here is of the mopane worms served at the Boma restaurant, which is on the Vic Falls Safari Lodge grounds.

Good camping grounds close to...

Good camping grounds close to Victoria falls. Most national parks have camping grounds as well but can differ a lot in what you get for your money. The house boats on Lake Kariba are excellent !

Can rent various sizes of boats. Normally all food are included is prepared by our 'guide' on the boat. The price may sound expensive but if you look at everything that is included it is quite cheap.

Rent a cottage in Nyanga (try booking in advance)- Nyanga Dam Lodges. Its so beautiful! When I was there with my friend, the cottage was 1 US dollar per night for both of us! We had our own fireplace, two bedrooms, our kitchen, clean sheets, bathrom and beautiful view over the lake.

It is amazing how easy is travelling in Zimbabwe. I didnt expect this. Every major city has a few hostels, that will take care of you. You usually get also a free ride from the railway station to the hostel. Most of them are ran by nice and friendly people, allways willing to chat. The hostels are clean and very cheap, 1-5 US dollars per night.

The Bulawayo Youth Hostel is...

The Bulawayo Youth Hostel is incredibly inexpensive, at only 60 Zim $ per night (because the
currency is so unstable, it makes no sense to translate that into US dollars). It was clean,
comfortable, quiet, and very roomy. When we were there in January, there were only two long-
term guests and us. Anna, the woman who has run the hostel for over 40 years, is absolutely
wonderful. One of the other staff members has two bicycles which he rents out for a reasonable
fee.

AFRICA SUN

AFRICA SUN
398 Thurso Road, Killarney Tel: 31528
This is one of the places that would keep me coming back to Bulawayo. The owner, Mr. Kruger, is like a father to their guests. This hostel is located in a nice & quiet house. The upper floor is Mr.Kruger's home and in the ground floor are the dorms. He's so kind and helpful to anyone that you feel at home here. He said to me something I can't forget: 'I act with my guests as I would like them to act with me if I were alone out there in Europe or wherever'. My god!...he's a philosopher!!
They offer: Clean accommodation, lock up facilities, communal kitchen, home cooked meals, hot showers and baths, barbecue area, swimming pool, lounge with TV, beautiful garden, pool table. They also have a shuttle service to and from town, free pick up and drop off services.
Africa Sun also have their own safari company called Africa Sun Safaris. Sebastian or Josephine will take you on a tour of Matopos you will never forget. If you book a Matopos Tour with them you get a free night at Sun Backpackers.

NYATHI CAMP SITE in Vic Falls
There are 2 campings in Vic Falls. TheMunicipal Camping is very well located, but older and much more crowded than Nyathi Camp, 2 or 3 kms. outside Vic Falls. Green grass, complete communal area, and they also have Chalets there and are very reasonable.

Victoria Falls Safari Lodge: Victoria Falls Safari Lodge

The rack room rate while we were there was $135 US per night, included breakfast.

Victoria Falls Safari Lodge was a wonderful place to stay. We were welcomed and treated as special guests. Our rooms had an African flavor and the view of the watering hole captured the interest of our entire group. The restaurants were excellent and the service throughout the hotel was fantastic.
