Thorntree Lodge: Lodge with extras

by Julestoo

The facilities were great. They had electical outlets as long as you brought a converter. The food was decent. The guides were okay. The hut on the Zimbizee river was incredible views and games. Service was acceptable but beat by Botswana. The lodge fails to have you cleared at customs so you must pay twice!

The lodge has a pool, elephants that walk through each morning that allow you to pose for pictures. The monkeys are all along the walks. The hippos will exit the river right next to the lodge and come into the grounds.

THE VICTORIA FALLS HOTEL: ULTIMATE COLONIAL LUXURY

by DAO

Are you a member of a Royal family, A president of a country or just a foreign Ambassador? Well this is the place for you and anyone who can afford to stay here! This is one of the most distinctive hotels in the world. It’s a real wow. You can truly visualise all the excesses of the Colonial days. Smoke a cigar in the lounge with the stuffed heads of wildlife looking down on you. Have a drink in the wood panelled bar with zebra skin rugs on the floor. Listen to the live bands that play beside the Edwardian pool for your relaxation and enjoyment. View the murals in the The Livingstone Room. They also have all the modern amenities like the internet, spa and several restaurants.

Stanley's Terrace overlooks part of the falls and you can watch people bungee jumping from the bridge. You can also watch Baboons stealing fruit from somewhere in the hotel and running towards the falls with their ill-gotten proceeds!

VICTORIA FALLS BACKPACKERS: ONE OF THE BEST BACKPACKERS IN THE WORLD

by DAO

This is how a 'BACKPACKERS' should be. They say on their website they offer a "A Safari Lodge atmosphere and facility at Backpacker prices". They do. I stayed in nice room with a wall safe & mosquito net in the pleasant garden courtyard near the pool. The kitchen is open air as is the TV room/lounge. They make a fire every night and will help you set up the fantastic BBQ they have for a braai. You can sit and sun yourself, or have a walk into town and see the falls. The staff can also arrange money conversion at a good rate, tours, flights, whatever you want. They even offer discounts if you buy more than one adrenaline activity (i.e. Bungee Jumping the falls). Free and secure car parking is right at the front and they even washed my car. While so many people go and stay in Livingston in cramped conditions 16 km from the falls – you could be here enjoying quiet luxury at a hostel price. Meals? Cook your own or ask the staff to make you a meal. It’s all flexible and inviting. A must stay.

• Swimming pool open all the time
• Braai every night
• Secure
• They can arrange anything and everything
• Friendly staff
• Low prices

Fantastic !

Lodge at the Ancient City: Best Hotel in Zimbabwe

by kgduke

The Lodge at the Ancient City is probably Zimbabwe's best hotel for those looking for a unique experience infused with Zimbabwean themes. This is no standard cookie cutter hotel. Each lodge (14 in all) is built in the style of the Great Zimbabwe ruins nearby. There are also 44 rooms which I have not seen. Massive hand-placed stone walls form snaking structure inside and out. Each room has its own courtyard and compound surrounded by a stone wall. Each soaring lodge ceiling is thatched in a traditional style. The grounds of the hotel overlook ancient Great Zimbabwe.

Service is excellent, food is wonderful, guides are knowledgeable, area is beautiful. The hotel provides guides that can lead you on walking tours of Great Zimbabwe with special attention to its history and significance. Nearby Lake Mutirikwi provides boating and fishing entertainment. Game drives are always possible.

You can choose between 1) bed and breakfast, 2) bed and full board with one activity, and 3) fully inclusive (3 meals, tea/coffee, snacks, one activity per day).

The food at The Lodge at the Ancient City is wonderful. Normally your assigned guide eats meals with you to answer questions and to help you plan your stay. Service is excellent across the board at the hotel.

The lodges are beautifully furnished with two double beds on a raised platform. African chairs, spears, and natural stone and wood evoke royal residences of the past.

Matetsi safari lodge: The best luxury lodge!

by kixon

This place is absolutely wonderful!
Each guest have their own lodge/bungalow, whatever you want to call it, with a view over the matetsi river. Every lodge have their own little pool, bathroom(which was huuge), and a very beutifully decorated livingroom. The lodge serves breakfast at the main building, which is very small but cozy, lunch you can either eat at the same place or they will serve it to your room, its one choice only lunch but it is absolutely wonderful.
Dinner usually has three courses, with 2 choices for the maincourse.
All the guests(I think(?)) are free to go on safaris, bush walks(HIGHLY RECOMMENDED), and boattours on the matetsi.

The safaris start very early, like 6 in the morning latest, and you return at 9, and you'll have breakfast. The guides are very highly trained, very polite and very nice. Our guide Sib and his scout Kenyas was super!

There are alot of bugs in Zimbabwe, and you need to be careful where you step, and make sure you close your doors to your room.
This is not a place for bugphobics.

Crocodiles hang out in the river and they might climb up on the beaches so don't go near the water. A huge lizard jumped in our pool, it was looking for drowned bugs. Bleurgh. It wasn't dangerous, just big and scary.

The food is amazing, the chef loves to share recipies, so don't be afraid to ask him.
The place is very relaxing, and there isn't much to do apart from the bushactivities. So do bring your own entyertainment if you bore easily.
The personell is super and take good care of you
The scenery is stunning.

Victoria Falls Safari Lodge: Heaven on earth

by janiac

Gorgeous hotel, wild animals visiting on the grounds, great restaurants and lovely rooms

water hole on property brings animals within viewing range.

Hwange Safari Lodge: Hwange Safari Lodge

by eclipseTraveler

Get lots of sleep before you get here, because you won't want to sleep once you arrive! During the day you are busy out on safari, and at night you can watch the wildlife at the Lodge's own watering hole.
Rooms were clean and nicely decorated. Each room overlooks the watering hole, but at a distance. There was a small swimming pool for the humans, but we were too busy to use it. There was also a lounge with a huge fireplace where you could sit, relax and discuss the days sightings.

Hwange NP Main camp

by sachara

During our trip we spent some nights in hotels, but we had also the opportunity to camp in Chimanimani, in Victoria Falls and at the main camp of Hwange NP.
The nights in August are cold, so you need a warm sleeping bag.
At all the places it was also possible to hire a cottage, chalet or room.
At main camp we slept in our tent for $ 2
There are cottages and chalets from $ 3.50 to $ 11.

Ranger headquarters, shop, pub, restaurant, petrol station.

For almost one hundred years, visiting members of royal families, international and local statesmen, and celebrities from all over the globe, have preferred to stay at the Victoria Falls Hotel, where they are assured of privacy and care. The hotel has an atmosphere steeped in history, combining the charm of the old with all the comfort and convenience of today. It is a hotel that can truly claim to be unique - its stunning location and intriguing history make it so.

We took here an afternoon thea.
