Out in the open. Under star lit skies! The
WILD AFRICAN BUSH sounds of the night!
Can't beat it. First time in AFRICA. The first night all 5 of us a little un-easy! Had something taking a leak outside my tent the first night! Wasn't ELEPHANT, the tent would have washed away, lol!

Good spot, can't remeber the name of the area. Big 12x12 tents. Which by the way had to myself! Love the bucket showers!
    Great hard working crew!

Tents are spread out, not close together.
Facing the open BUSH so you can hear or maybe even see something WILD coming near by!

Soft sand at HWANGE PARK. But don't walk around bare footed! Thorns all over.
They give this little canvas bowl they fill up in the morn with hot water. To wash & shave!
    GOOD STUFF!

    Sunset in Hwange

Returning from a long day in an open jeep after game watching and photographing, our guide / driver / chef Warren had prepared a delicious meal for us. Cleaning up after the meal was as always a common activity, followed by poker by the bondfire and admiration of this beautiful sunset. Life could not be better!

    MISS IT!
    by safardreams
Just a huge canopy for our DINING! Too much food. At the late dinner with the lanterns, we had many flying insects. They don't bother you. They want the light.

    Just the openess.

Hwange Safari Lodge: A costly experience

  • Me and a friend stayed at this lodge for one night (Mid April 2008) as it was included in our Victoria falls package.

The lodge (alltough the place and rooms were clean and the staff friendly) had a feel of deterioration and desolation. We were virtually the only guests staying there.

Sadly while on our game drive I had money (100 USD) stolen from our room. When reported to management they seemed very apologetic about this incident. However we were told that this had happened before when not recently. We also had the local police involved (an experience on its own) but the money was gone.

On our check out we were asked to pay USD 20 for a bottle of average local wine we had with dinner the night before. This despite the fact that we were told by the waiter our food and drinks were included in our half board rate.

Strangely enough, while the a la carte menu had prices listed the wine list didn't. We went for the waiters recommendation since our choice wasn't available.

After all, how much would it have cost to charge us a fair price for it, a smile perhaps?

Overall, the stay in this Lodge gave our trip a really bitter aftertaste. With what we have experienced I frankly can't recommend a stay at this lodge.

Best part of our stay there however was the 2,5hr game drive in the late afternoon. Despite the unpleasant weather conditions (it rained) we truely enjoyed it! Our guide was really determined to make the best out of the situation and we managed to see quite a bit of wildlife.
