Tashinga camp, Kariba: Nice campsite with great view

Nicely set in the hills overlooking Lake Kariba. Bar and swimming pool. From Kariba you can arrange to be picked up by speed boat and go to stay at a houseboat on the lake for a couple of days. Wildlife all around.

Houseboats on the Lake: Bobbing around on a houseboat

We spent a couple of nights out on a houseboat on Lake Kariba.
I probably wouldnt do it again, but I am glad that I went.

We were a group of about 20 people, there was a cold water shower and a huge common area which at night turned into a dorm!

Food was cooked for us and was delicious, we ate on the top deck of the boat which was always nice.

At night we slept outside at the end of the boat under the stars - which was an amazing experience.

The staff were always friendly and helpful.

Warthogs: Camping on Lake Kariba

We stayed here for a night before heading out onto the lake on a houseboat and then another night when we came back from the houseboat before we went back down to Harare.

Its a nice camp, set on the edge of the lake.
Its a very security concious camp, all around it there is electric barbed wire which if any animal tries to get in and hits into the wire an alarm will sound.

Even so, this wire doesnt totally deter the animals as you can see from my things to do tip, so if you do stay in a tent here you should never leave food in your tent - if you do you are just asking for trouble!

Its a small enough camp with a camping Area on grass. We stayed in one of their A Frames, which consisted of a mattress on the wooden raised floor with a mossie net.
The showers and toilets were shared - but hot!

There was a bar area too, with TV's we sat and watched rugby one night and footie another! They also serve food and I remember eating a delicious curry dish here.
