 | Victoria Falls Hotel Mercure A'Zambezi Victoria Falls Reviews | 1 - 3 of 3 | |
This hotel is located right along the Zambezi river, with a nice natural architecture. Staff is very attentive, and careful, although one might say that they still lack experience. You can watch young monkeys playing in the garden, while you sip your drink next to pool (although I doubt if this was regularly cleaned). As in anywhere else in Zimbabwe, the hotel works on cash-only basis. Simple things like water, or postcards are very expensive in this hotel, which annoyed us a little bit. We made our booking on breakfast-dinner basis, but I would recommend including lunch in your package unless you want to pay 30 dollars for a mediocre lunch, or 2 dollars per small water at the hotel. There is an activities centre in the hotel which was quite helpful (although due to high water levels many activities were not operating). Food was reasonable, but certainly not a major selling point. Also there were some local dance shows during the dinner which improved the ambience. Hotel also offered free shuttle bus to the Victoria Falls town, and the national park.

The most horrible accident during my stay in Africa. We (my friend and I) decided to take hotel shuttle bus to get to Vic Falls. We asked in Hotel Reception about timetable, and confirmed the time of departure from Vic Falls with bus driver who confirmed it will be 9.50 am(it was extremely important to us as we were supposed to leave to the airport at 10 am with other group of tourist. As the ride from Vic Fall to hotel is about 10 minutes, it nicely fit our plans) When we we're waiting for shuttle bus (being at the Vic Falls bus stop ten minutes in advance that is at 9.40, a taxi driver proposed that he would take us to the hotel …and to the airport…we were very astonished at the fact that as the matter of fact we were going to airport through our hotel, however the driver could not have known it). He (taxi driver) ensured us that there's no shuttle bus from Vic Falls to the hotel at 9.50 (we checked it before twice, both at the reception desk as well with bus driver). He told us also that bus driver is a liar, and surprisingly for us again proposed to drive us to the airport again. We were waiting fifteen more minutes and then decided to take a taxi, so as not to run into the risk of missing our flight (otherwise the day before we failed to take off, as Air Zimbabwe fight was cancelled due to problems with aircraft engine). When we finally reach the Azimbabwe hotel, our friends were very angry with us, because we kept them waiting (we were supposed to go together with them to the airport with another shuttle bus) and they were about to leave us as it could jeopardize their punctual reaching the airport. Our friends told us, that bus driver had called the reception desk and informed them not to wait for us, because he had met us, and I had wanted to stay in the town to buy shoes! ( - in Zimbabwe?!).
continue...Our theory is that bus driver did not come to bus stop at Vic Falls on purpose, and did 2 phone calls, 1st to taxi driver letting him know that 2 tourists will miss shuttle bus (as he will not come) and will probably pay him any money to drive them to hotel and airport (when asking him few hours before about 9.50 a.m ride we let him know it is vitally important for us as 10.05 am our shuttle from hotel should take us to the airport) and then 2nd one to the hotel informing he had met us in the city and we were not willing to come back to hotel, so that shuttle bus to airport leaves before we come with taxi driver – thus forcing us to use the same taxi from hotel to airport. Needless to say we paid for taxi (5 km) more than in New York (the option was missing the flight). Fortunately our friend from hotel waited 10 minutes longer in airport shuttle bus, so at least we did not need to continue our trip with taxi driver. We think the profit taxi driver made on us were divided between him and shuttle bus driver. So please be very careful visiting Zimbabwe. Very beautiful places, but people atrocious. PS. In the airport we could admire big posters encouraging tourists and native people to fight corruption in Zimbabwe. No comments.

This five star hotel backs onto the river, perfect if you want to go out fishing. You can also see the Falls from the back. This hotel offers the ultimate in luxury. The restaurants serve a wide variety of foods, and the service is wonderful.
Seeing Hippos wander around the back, when they come out of the river early in the morning. Going fidhing in the Zambezi, where you're bound to see crocodiles. Theme: HotelPrice: US$120-180 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averagePhone: 1345837Directions: Near the hotel district
