Lofoten Hostel: Kabelvag, Lofoten Islands, Norway

This hostel, located on the grounds of the Lofoten Folkehogskole, is hard to decribe. A ugly concrete building which is normally used as a school/sports center - and about 20 minutes from the centre of Kabelvag. It's just before the wooden chuch and surrounded by trees - but it's still in an ugly position. .

one of the few - or maybe the only - budget place. On top of this accommodation in Kabelvag is scarce

Finto Motor Inn: Inuvik, NWT Canada

Nice, not far from the centre (about 5 minutes walk) and in a quiet location. The rooms were correct and very clean - not fancy but adequate for sure. The owner''s son, being half-Swiss, took me under his protective wing and gave me invaluable advice.

A wonderful restaurant on the premises - the best in town, some people said

Tuktoyaktuk, NWT Canada

Roger and Winnie Gruben's home is
one of the few places where one can stay in Tuktoyaktuk - since there''s so very few tourists going there - and even fewer staying overnight. Roger is Inuvialuit (that was, to be politically incorrect, eskimo) and his wife Winnie is a G''wichin Indian.

The Gruben's are really warm and nice people and provide you with great northern meals too: bannocks, cloudberries, cariboo, and a lot more

M/S Vistafjord: take a cruise

Certainly you may find hotels also in Spitzbergen - but cruising is certainly the very best way to explore the Arctic
.

on a cruise-ship you will find all the comfort you might expect and you do not have to pack and unpack at different places...
.
But keep in mind, rough weather is mostly no problem inside a cosy hotelroom, while on a cruise-ship you might get sea-sick...

If you really wanna see...

If you really wanna see Spitsbergen you're favourite accomodation must be the tent.
Hotels (also luxury) are available in Longyearbyen, also Barentsburg has a sloppy hotel with the typical soviet intourist-charm.
60-80 USD (shared toilet facilities)!

You'll enjoy the extremely tiny beds!
