While i was in radisson, I did not expect to find anything new compared to the other hotels in dhaka, but boy, Was i wrong! This hotel is brand new, every part of the room is gleaming with its tender age. But the one thing that blew me away was their food, more specifically their 5 course meals, each part of the meal was a treat on its own. Even the rice felt like a dish that can be eaten without any thing else.
A bit expensive, but really good considering the standards of other hotels around.

Hello.
I am going to Bangladesh tommarrow and I want to save money and rent a house, room, apartment, etc.
I am not a tourist and I like spending time with the locals and maybe live there a while, months, etc.
Are cheap rooms in slums pretty safe? What about apartments by the slums? in the slums?
Is it about the same as India? Ive been to India and heard what people there said about apartments.

Every one goes to Aarong! I was there on my last visit. But I understand they have become a bit up-market now.
If you want to buy sarees then the place to go to is Tangail Sharee Kutir (Rangs Arcade, Gulshan 2. Phone 8811046). I understand they have an outlet elsewhere in Dhaka too. This is the go-to place for tangail and jamdhani sarees . They also have a good collection of vegetable dye prints. Most importantly they are pretty reasonable.
Visit the building of the Dhaka Parliament, which is a magnificient sight to see in the sunset from the outside - armed guards forbid even to take pictures, but you may manage from a distance with a zoom-camera. Hospitality of the local people - my guide not only insisted giving me a free ride to and from the airport in his air-conditioned car, but also arranged a 'baby-taxi', a kind of motor-driven rickshaw for sight-seeing.
If you are shopping at bazzar or street markets, you will have to bargain the price. Bangladesh although predominantly moslem is more liberal than most Islamic countries. However, try to be on the safe side by not kissing or wearing revealing clothes in public places. The people are very polite to visitors but also very superstitious.
On the way to NAtional Memorial at Savar, lies Jahangirnagar University, the only one residential public university in the country. In Pakistan era the then central government wanted to crush the student uprising and growing involvement of students of Dhaka University in national politics made the government think about moving the Dhaka University Campus far from the city centre at the outskirt of Dhaka. However finally it emerged as a separate university in the late 70s. Apart from its luch freen surrounding, in winter this university campus becomes a Mecca for bird-watcers as migratory birds from Siberia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia move here in their thousands in winter months (November-February) to escape severe cold up north.
Lalbagh Fort was built in 1678 A.D. by Prince Mohammad Azam, son of Mughal emperor Aurangazeb. The fort has witnessed a bloody battle during the first war of independence (1857) in India when some sepoys here backed by the people revolted against British forces. Bangladesh was then a part of India. In this Fort one finds the tomb of Pari Bibi (Fairy lady), Lalbagh Mosque, Audience Hall.
