Muara cruise port

by allatsea

We will be arriving at the cruise port at Muara and want to catch a bus to visit the lovely city of BSB. When we arrive at Muara how easy will it be to exit the port and find a bus stop nearby? Is it far? And how often do the buses run?

Re: Muara cruise port

by SangAji

there will usually be a welcoming party n inbound tours operators will be offering guided tours. purple buses into town operate from pekan muara, need a walk of about 15 mins from port exit, supposed to operate every 15 mins and trip into bsb can take more than an hour over 17 miles distance! however note that the last bus either end is at 6pm. cheers.

Travel Tips for Bandar Seri Begawan

Safety/Scamming in Bandar Seri Begawan

by balhannah

I have visited a quite a few Asian countries and I must say that Brunei is different to most.

We always felt safe here, people were friendly and helpful, and there didn't seem to be the scamming and rip-offs of other Asian countries.....

We did strike one, and there would be minor instances, but on the whole, Bandar Seri Begawan and surrounds was a great hassle free place!

Kampong Ayer

by seagoingJLW

Visit Kampong Ayer in Bandar Seri Bagawan. You can see it is a study in contrasts. Look closely at the buildings in the stilt village and you will see TV antennas on top of the roofs.

Nearly 30,000 people live in Kampong Ayer. It is accessible by boat or wooden bridges from Bandar Seri Begawan. The houses are connected by a maze of wooden walkways.

Jame`Asr Hassanil Bolkiah Mosque

by frankcanfly

If you`re lucky like me (and I always seem to be), you`ll find an unlocked door to one of the Minarets. You`ll be able to climb up the 297 steps and have great views of the surroundings. Just act like you belong there, and nobody will question you.

Respect local customs

by SLLiew

Brunei is generallyh a conservatic society embracingl Islamic values.

Eating pork, drinking alcohol and contact with the saliva of dogs are "haram" or disallowed under teachings of Islam. Over 70% of Bruneians are Muslims.

Also do NOT offer your gift using your left hand.

Pointing using your index finger is considered rude.

Remember to remove your shoes when visiting a mosque. Dress conservatively too to respect that this is a holy place of worship. If not sure, alwyas ask you local Bruneian guide.

But I am sure the locals will understand that a visiting tourist may not be aware of local culture and any intrasigences will be tolerated with a smile.

Architecture of Brunei

by victorwkf

To me, the most beautiful thing about Brunei is the architecture of the various buildings, especially the mosques, palaces, government buildings etc which all have a very strong Islamic and Malay influence. Also, many of these buildings then to be very grand and impressive, considering Brunei is one of the richest countries in the world. Take your time to walk around Bandar Seri Begawan and admire the impressive architecture of the buildings.
