Gayana Island Resort is located just off the Western shores of the 3rd largest island in the world, Borneo. It is one of the islands of the national marine park of Tunku Abdul Rahman. The resort buildings are all connected by a wooden walkway on stilts. You don't even have to get wet to look at all the beautiful fish. If you want to get away from it all this is the place. You can be back in Kota Kinabalu in about 15 minutes. There is a free ferry for guests from the pier.
Nice over water bungalows with queen size beds, couch, writing desk with chair, TV, attached bathroom, and balcony on stilts over water. There is a ocean water pool, trails in the forest, and watersports. I would highly recommend staying here for a few nights.

Labuan is an offshore tax haven you probably don't know much about. This is a significant advantage since keeping a low profile is an integral part of privacy, after all. There is not much happening in the banking business on week-ends so that is the time to come to Labuan. There are some terrific deals on hotels at that time. We stayed in a room that during the week would have cost over $200. we paid $50. I loved it! UPDATE: The former Sheraton Labuan is now the Grand Dorsett Labuan. Hopefully it is still the same great hotel that it was under Sheraton ownership.
We had a balcony that overlooked the harbor, there was a nice pool, and the staff was very helpful. Royal Mulu Resort is by itself a luxurious resort set in the heart of the Sarawak jungle. The resort is situated on the Melinau River, adjacent to the Mulu National Park, home to the world famous Mulu Caves. The range of mountains forms a spectacular backdrop to the resort. The resort has added a touch of luxury to the jungle, designed in the style of ethnic longhouses linked by a series of wooden walkways. The resort is constructed on stilts three metres off the ground with the Melinau River and its' tributary wrapped around it like a moat. We had a very nicely decorated room, queen size bed, TV, dresser, chairs, and attached bathroom. There was a front and back balcony. This resort is in the rain forest and it will rain most every day. Some times it is just an afternoon shower and some times it rains all day and night.
The resort swimming pool and built-in jacuzzi are welcome features after a day of caving.

We flew from Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan on Malaysian Airlines. It was a very short flight. After we arrived at the Sandakan airport we were met by someone from the resort and taken on the 30 minute drive to the jungle. We stayed at the Sepilok Jungle Resort which is just a short walk from the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation center. We had come to see the orangutans.
The setting on the river was very pretty. There were many trees and flowers surrounding the resort. The humidity was quite high and we had rain off and on. Our room was nice with double bed, dressers, TV, chairs, and attached bathroom with shower. There was a balcony over looking the garden. The fishing village of Santubong is worth a visit. There are some nice beaches here, ancient rock carvings, and birds. Santubong Kuching Resort sprawls over 25 acres amidst lush jungles, approximately 25 km from the city of Kuching in Sarawak and 40 minutes from the airport. It is a retreat amidst nature nestled at the foot of the legendary Mount Santubong on Damai Beach, overlooking the South China Sea.

A place to relax by kyoub We had a room on the 8th floor, which was the top floor. From there we ha a view of the town and the harbor. There was a small sign in the room that stated that everything in the room was for sale, at a price. I would say that was their way of saying that if you are tempted to take something that you will be charged for it at the going price. I am not sure how you would get the furniture in your suitcase.

While in Kuching we stayed at the Telang Usan Hotel. It's not as flashy as the higher-priced places, but it's a fantastic bargain for a good room. We had a nice size room with bed, dresser, small couch and chair. It also had a private bathroom. The decor is local Iban style, revealing the origin of the hotel's owner and operator. On the grounds there is a replica of a long house. The only problem that we had was that there was a large group at the hotel when we were there. They seemed to slam doors all night long.
With in walking distance of all major attractions. Breakfast buffet included with lodging.

Miri is the starting point for adventure so we decided to have a couple of relaxing days on the beach before we flew to Mulu. The Miri Marriott Resort & Spa (former RIHGA Royal Hotel Miri), is set on 20 acres of beautiful gardens near Miri's Brighton Beach , fringed by the South China Sea. The view of the pool and sea from the glassed windows in the hotel are breathtaking. Our cottage overlooked the well kept gardens. Service was outstanding and the food was all good.
We had a large room with king size bed, tropical printed bedspread, writing desk with chair, small lounge, and TV. The attached bathroom with tub was very nicely decorated We also had a balcony with a small table and chairs overlooking the beautifully manicured gardens.

Our suite at the Promenade Hotel in Kota Kinabalu had large windows overlooking the sea. What a fitting climax to our trip around Borneo. We could sit in our living room and watch the beautiful sun sets over the South China Sea. The problem was it made it very hard for us to leave. We had enough room to stay for a month. There was a large sitting room with couch, chair, TV sitting on fully stocked bar, writing desk with chair and lamp. A large bedroom with king bed, TV, dressers, and large closet in hallway to attached bathroom. The bathroom had a large tub and a separate shower. Large windows in living room and bedroom provided us with amazing views. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.
This hotel was a very pleasant surprise for us. The food was outstanding. The staff very helpful. There was a nice pool and a gift shop that sold the best local chocolate candy. It was also within walking distance of a mall and several other restaurants. Had a very enjoyable stay here. The Hotel is right on the riverfront. Request a room with a river view, I did. There is lots happening on the river. Every evening, dragon boat crews were practising for an upcoming festival. Our room was large and nice. Breakfast was a buffet, very busy, hard to get a table sometimes. A big choice of food, and very nice. Service here was good. There is a travel agency in the Hotel which was cheap and very good. Of the 3 tours we booked with them, twice, we were the only people, and once, we only had one other couple with us, so it was like our own private tour. Across the road from the Hotel is the main shopping centre, and along the riverfront is a lovely walk. In an excellent position.
Great views of the river Theme: Hotel
