This was my room in the main building. Rooms here are bigger and more luxurious than the resort rooms in the other block. My room was easily the biggest hotel room I’ve ever stayed in and done up tastefully and elegantly in gold, cream and royal blue. I only spent 12 hours here as I was on a business trip and due to a delayed flight, checked in at 8 pm and was out by 8 am for a morning meeting. What a shame! It would have been nice to luxuriate a little longer in my bathrobe within the sheets (Egyptian cotton...) of my king-sized bed, nibbling on the tasty fruit basket so thoughtfully provided by the hotel.
Room was so large that it could fit a king-size bed and two large sofa chairs. Click on the picture to see details of the furnishing-which was elegant and comfortable. The Royal Bathroom The bathroom at The Empire is a wonder all of its own. It maybe even rates as a "Thing to Do". LOL! It comes with fine quality marble from floor to ceiling, with a separate shower and in-room Jacuzzi! In fact, the bathroom was as big as some bedrooms that I've been in in Tokyo... Most people would probably spend a lot of time having a bubble bath or jacuzzi here. A book in hand, turn on your favourite CD, with a glass of wine awaiting~what could be better? Please remember to click on the second picture to see what the royal bathroom looks like. Room at Sheraton Utama by Wild_Orchid This was the first international hotel built 20 years ago. Despite it’s age, regular refurbishments keep it in a good state of repair. The hotel is small, stylish if rather quiet: just nice for a good night's rest after a hard day’s work. The room is smaller that what I’m accustomed to but it was comfortable and I had no complaints. A small donation of equivalent to USD1.00 was put in my bill as a donation to UNICEF when I checked out. While I did not mind that, I just thought it would have been polite had I been asked first or at least been told about it before the bill was issued.
A generous fruit platter was there to welcome me as I checked in. It is located about 11 km from the airport and within walking distance of several tourist attractions: Water Village, Tasek Lama Recreational Park, Tamu Kianggeh (Kianggeh Market) and the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque. However, due to lack of time, I didn't get to see them all. The Empire by Wild_Orchid The Empire Hotel and Country Club was built to house delegates to an APEC Ministerial Conference some years ago. It’s now a lavishly appointed hotel and a country club with a golf course designed by the big bear himself, Jack Nicklaus. It’s located on 180 hectares of beautifully landscaped grounds with a small man-made beach with watersport facilities too. So the hotel and it’s grounds are huge, and I mean HUGE! There aren’t that many visitors to Brunei on any given day so it’s easy to feel completely alone in this palatial facility, with its spacious lobby, high ceiling and wide corridors. It’s THE place to stay, and if you business friends in Brunei, they will most certainly be able to book you a room at no more than the Sheraton Utama’s (see tip above) rates.
Did I mention that it is huge-and see the next few tips on the size of the room and bathroom. Fit for a queen! ~ l ~ Theme: HotelPrice: US$80-120 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: Jerudong BG3122, Negar Brunei DarussalamPhone: +673 241 8888Other Contact: salesperson@theempirehotel.com

If you can afford it, if you like luxury, or if your boss accepts to pay for it, I recommend this out-of –the norms place; from the rooms (greater than my Paris apartment, 70 sq metres at least!) to the pool (half a square km, with several basins, seawater, sand beach(yes!)waterfalls, etc), going through the corridors, ballrooms, restaurants, everything is oversized here, with marble, precious wood, lots of (friendly) staff, luxury shops arcade, 18 holes (design Jack Niklaus) golf. . . everything! This hotel has been build by Jeffry, the brother (now persona non grata in Brunei) of the Sultan, investing his money in a pharaonic project. Located on sea side at Jerudong, 15 mn driving from town, a real luxury resort, where you almost can feel a sultan for one day (except for the harem, of course, . . . but you can give me a tip . . . . . for the harem!!). 250 US$ to 10000US$

Located at walking distance from city centre; good comfort, has a good restaurant, friendly staff. Exactly what a business visitor needs for a few days; a bit Spartan rooms, but who cares for a few days?
Good breakfast and very kind staff. Allow to B Y O (bring your own (drink, of course! )) at night for dinner . Theme: HotelPrice: US$80-120 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageAddress: Jalan SultanDirections: Located at walking distance from city centreWebsite: sheraton

this is the cheapest accommodation in bandar seri begawan. it's a very simple hostel with strictly segregated male and female dorms. due to islamic law. when you arrive at pusat belia there is a good chance that noone will be on reception. if this is the case, simply find yourself a bed and pay your money to the night warden if he turns up. if he doesn't, you'll get the room for free! the cost of a bed in pusat belia is BND$10 per night. it's the cheapest place to stay in bandar seri begawan, and the only place to stay if you're on a tight budget!!
there's a pool in the pusat belia complex which i believe you can use for BND$1. Theme: HostelPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: just down the road from the sheraton, near the morning market.Directions: downtown bandar seri begawan

Twelve Roofs: Brunei is very expensive as far as accomodation is concerned. There is only one hostel. And, I was not able to contact them. Luckily, I found out about twelve roofs from the net. It is run by a very friendly, informative and talkative german by the name Joerg. I mailed them and they replied fast and I was able to decide to go over there. Twelve Roofs is a camping site set in a forest. It consists of a lodge and dorms. Its a lovely setting, if you want to stay in a forest. The only problem is mosquitoes, but then its an experience of living in jungle :-). Joerg took me around to places in Brunei and a very memorable trek into the Labi Rainforest (details are on the travelogue) Update: Unfortunately, the site has been closed permanently now.
A true forest experience. Theme: CampgroundComparison: least expensive

Its was nice a cozy, a good place to have a really good rest after a long day of meeting. But if you're in Brunei for holidays or need more facilities that a nice cozy room, Sheraton is a NO NO! The pool is so mini :(
It has a trekking path behind the hotel, so you can talk a hide up the hill.... sadly I never found the time ....sighhh!!

Absolutely beautiful hotel with plush rooms. Every room has a balcony with a view of the South China Sea. The pools are terrific. The largest is a sand-bottomed lagoon. One of the finest hotels in the world.
The noon and dinner buffets are really worth the money. The desserts are so beautiful you hate to eat them. Theme: HotelPrice: US$180 and up » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than average
