Rolex guest house.: Basic but adequate.

One of only two places in Magwe licensed for foreign visitors, this place could definitely do with a lick of paint, but it's clean and certainly adequate for a night or two. As far as I could tell, I was the only person staying there, and they gave me the room with the small balcony, which was pleasant for a sit and a read. If you want to reserve the balcony room in advance it is number 7. The bathroom (also on the baclony) was spotless but only had cold water, which was all that was needed in the heat. There is a TV, if you fancy Myanmar telly.

All the rooms are arranged on a balcony around a central area. I get the impression it must have been some old colonial building (see photo).

As with most places in Myanmar, power is sketchy.

A very nice breakfast is actually taken in the owners house next door, giving it a very homely feel.

The staff are pleasant and helpful, and I payed 5USD for single occupancy of a double room.

None really, although the central area is atmospheric.

Gon Guest House: Dreadful and overpriced place

Small, cell-like rooms with bars in front of the windows, a toilet so dirty that I didn't even dare setting down my toilet-paper anywhere and sheets that can't possibly have been changed this century, let alone this year. I don't know how or why the Lonely Planet describes the place as "clean and friendly". They must have been somewhere different. Probably a different dimension. And to add insult to injury they seriously asked for four dollars a night! That is outrageously expensive!

Feces being washup up into the bathroom through the floor once you flushed the toilet.
