Silver Star Hotel: Good city centre location
The Silver Star is in the centre of Mandalay. A seven storey building, most rooms appear to have been refurbished. We staying in the 'expensive' corner rooms. The one on 7th floor was in a better state of repair than a similar room on 5th floor. There is considerable traffic noise from outside, but this diminishes after dark and the hotel is quiet.
Satellite TV includes western movies and news channels.
The breakfast is adequate, but not exciting, consisting of a plate of fruit and an omlette: boring after a few days.
Unique Quality: Few facilities, but the staff were helpful.

Mandalay Hill Resort: Not that expensive luxury Hotel
Usually I don't stay in such expensive places, during this kind of trip, also because I prefer to stay in places where you can have a wiew of real life of people; but we just got off a train where we spent a loooooong time! We where dirty and hungry and we really wanted a nice place! And is not that expensive, it was 100 US for a double room! The food was amazing, the buffet for a ridiculous amount, something like 13 US, and it was GREAT FOOD!
The Hotel is just beside Mandalay Hill.
There is a pool, and all the facilities of an international hotel.

Stay there for 3 nights. The staff is very nice and helpful, they arrange the trip to Mingun and bought for us the boat ticket to Bagan.
6 USD for a double shower outside but breakfast included in the nice terrase (entrance).
The boyz will carry your bag up to your room if you ask for. Same with the towel !!
