Hotel by the River Banks in Old Bagan

Bagan Thiripyitsaya was built 30 years ago by Burma government and only in 1995 management was transferred to the Sakura Group of Japan.

It is situated inside the walls of Old Bagan, where all the popular temples are located. The hotel is spread in a 24 acres of land, with nice landscaping and a beautiful pool. A pity we are not able to try the pool, as every day, we are tired and weary from temple hopping.

Service is very good, we stayed there during off season, and staff are very attentive to all our needs. Waiters are really good, and can speak good English, and food is yummy, esp the local Bagan dishes.

It is best to book it in a travel agency in Yangon, as they offer good prices.

Note: Internet connection is available, but very slow. And this hotel accept credit cards. (which is only very few hotels can do credit card transactions).

Unique Quality: Its a resort style with cottage type accommodation. All will have view of the gentle Ayeyarwardy river.

A jasmine scented cold face towel that hotel staff offer to guest once you arrive, even before a meal. Its totally refreshing.

Best Hotel In Old Bagan

The best hotel in the Old Bagan. Nice service, nice view overlooking mighty Ayeyarwady River. An alternative to watch the sunset in Bagan besides Pagodas' sunset view. Plenty of wagon available outside the hotel. Wagon driver will offer higher charges since those who stay at this hotel are quite well-off.

Unique Quality: The pool is great, clean and quiet.
There is a open air SPA and the charges is reasonable.
Nice open air breakfast at the river side of Ayeyarwady.
There is aother exit at the Villa side that connected to Bagan Thande Hotel that offer alternative dinner that is cheaper.
You can travel to Minyeingon pagoda for sunrise view, very quiet and nice view, about 10min walking from hotel. (The doorstep to 2nd level of the pagoda is block by removable bamboo door).
Alternatively can cycle to Shwesandaw pagoda for sunrise and sunset view but it is always pack with tourists.

Bungalows and Gardens

This is a privately owned hotel a few minutes walk from the Old Bagan city walls. Accommodation is in bungalow style rooms, which are spacious and comfortable. The riverside location of the hotel is undoubtedly a drawcard during the wet season, but there was a lot of sand on view when we stayed here!

We had not planned to stay at this hotel, but our first choice did not have a room available. It was more expensive than Average, but overall reasonably good value.

Breakfast was included in the rate, and this was a passable Western style buffet.

We did not sample the services, but there was also a massage service and spa within the hotel.

Unique Quality: The grounds are particularly attractive in this resort style hotel, and small temples are dotted within the perimeter, making for a very pleasant environment.

Meet Japan in Bagan!

Thiripyitsaya Sakura Hotel was established 30 years ago by the Government ; it is situated on the banks of the Ayeyarwaddy River. In 1995, ownership and management were taken over by the Sakura Group of Japan. Bagan Thiripyitsaya Sakura Hotel has since then undergone extensive renovation, upgrading and expansion.
When you arrive, you`ll realise to be in one of the best Myanmar-luxury hotels; it sprawls over 24 acres of landscaped gardens featuring flowering plants and tropical trees which have matured over the years. The Hotel's architecture, which has made the most of the property's western orientation toward the river, is in the Myanmar style utilizing teak and native stone as well as Bagan brick.
Bungalow, suites and restaurants cover the banks of the river, with a large pool in the middle.

Unique Quality: The hotels unique feature is its position immediately at the bank of river Ayeyerwaddy.
Excellent restaurants and a generous Spa cater for all addicts of wellness and good food.
Take care: the electronic safe-deposit boxes in the rooms have the tendency to break down and to resist all trys to open them !
