THE OCEAN PEARL INN: GOOD VALUE STAY AT THE OCEAN PEARL INN
YANGON (RANGOON)
Arrival in Yangon was an easy one as the hotel that I was stying in was there to pick me up at the airport. This surely makes it so much easier when travelling and also when arriving in a new country with its unfamiliar surroundings. Surely was good to see the smiling face of the hotel driver.
There are not usually many foreigners on Burmese flights and taxis are neccesary as airports are usually long distances from the city. As there were four of us this was a very good saving. The Hotel was a friendly place with a large room ,with double bed ,an ensuite with hot/cold water,a small fridge and air conditioning. This I thought was a really good value deal. The hotel was a 10- 15 minute walk from the city centre , lots of local closeby shops, supermarket, Bakery (across the road) two minutes to the Post Office and a cyber cafe..but be warned the internet it tightly controlled. The fridge was a bonus as I could buy all my bottled water at the supermarket and keep them cold..Lots of cold water is a neccesity here as the days are incredibly hot.
The Ocean Pearl does a good breakfast with lots of coffee. I found the staff here to be really helpful and propriter organises travel arrangements at the right price and gives a good exchange rate on money exchange.. Yes, I don't think that you will be dissapointed staying here.
The Ocean Pearl has its own generator as usually some time during the day the power will be turned off by the "authorities" so, is neccesary to stay in a Hotel that has its own Generator ..These can usually be seen out the front off most Hotels .
ALWAYS carry a small torch with you here..

Bagan Princess: Sweet place with pool for 35 US
I have experienced really good things about Bagan Princess.
They have a pool and rooms for about 35 US. Definitely a bit more then some competitors, but you get more. There is also a restaurant on site, and one next door called the Queen Restaurant, that is really great.
Good deal.
This article also has some good travel advice for Burma.

Eden Motel: Eden - a good stay in Nyaung U
Eden is a good stay in Nyaung U. Situated on the mainroad, shortly before the main market it is conviniently located. A nice double room with bamboocovered walls and woodenfloor, a decent bath, fan and AC, tv (I didnt need) was 6 USD including breakfast.
Restaurants, shops and bike rentals are right on the mainroad, still it was not too far away from the pagoda areas.

Inn Wa Guest House: Rooftop Breakfast!
I stayed here for two nights in January, 2005. The room cost $10, though I could have paid $8 for a room without a balcony. The room was clean and fully airconditioned and there was also a TV with cable channels. The staff were great but the best part was probably the rooftop breakfast every morning - it's worth staying here just for that!
Unique Quality: One thing I was very impressed with was the way the hotel staff took all of the drinks we had bought and swapped them over with ice cold drinks from their fridge. There was a small convenience store across the road but they had no fridge; we didn't realise that we could buy drinks from our hotel. Anyway, I thought that was nice. They also tried very hard to make sure we were comfortable.

Inn Wah Guesthouse: Friendly Staff and Clean enviroment
I stayed 3 nights at this Inn Wah and I found that the staff from this guesthouse is very friendly and helpful. They even help me to find a shop where I can convert digital photo into CD in Nyaung U where the backpackers will probably putting up here.
Unique Quality: The waitress will approach you and offer more fruits/toast when you're about to finish. Nice breakfast, I would say.

AyeYar hotel
I stayed at the AyeYar hotel in Bagan. The hotel was situated with a view of the Irrawaddy River and easy access to Bagan. Rooms were satisfactory and there was a pretty good food selection. Was a pretty good value and staff was friendly enough.

Accomodation in Bagan
There is plenty of accommodation here and excellent restaurants. At the time in 1999 the prices for accomodation crashed and were dirt cheap. They were about a third of what was quoted in my guide book. To the north of the archeological zone in Nyaun U you can find nice guest houses that provide good accommodation at a great value. Guest houses were so competetive they were waiting at the mini bus drop of with their own mini-buses and a full binder full of pictures.
Unique Quality: They have bikes which you can hire for the day and use to easily see the major sites at Bagan. I spent three days biking around the old city. The roads are all dirt and dust. Make sure you have a good bike with descent tire pressure.
Rooms were private with a bathroom and shower.
Breakfast was included in the price and included two eggs, two pieces of toast, and coffee.
