Aung Mingalar Hotel.: A very pleasant stay.

Arriving battered and bruised from an excruciating 5 hour jeep ride (see seperate tip), I was indeed a weary traveller when I staggered through the gate.

What met me, apart from the extremely courteous, English speaking staff, was a pleasant bugalow style hotel with well-kept gardens and an airy, open-sided breakfast room. The breakfast is the usual eggs, toast, fruit and tea or coffee affair, but perfectly well-done.

The room was en-suite with a wooden floor, comfy bed and satellite TV. It was here that I sadly watched Ireland getting thumped by France in the 6 nations rugby, but that's hardly the hotel's fault! It is very relaxing to sit outside on the verandah in the evening.

From the front of the hotel, you can see across to Shwezigon pagoda, which is pleasant when lit up at night.

A same day, inexpensive laundry service is available, and there are bicycles to rent at 1000 kyat (1 USD) per day. There are always trishaws and horse carts hanging about the front if you need one, and the hotel can assist with other travel arrangements.

Unique Quality: Nothing unique, but a perfectly pleasant place to base yourself whilst visiting Bagan.
