I stayed at Amata several times in the past two years, and each time was an extraordinary experience. The service is most friendly and efficient, the waitreses are most accomodating, always smiling and look great in their traditional Burmese uniform long dresses. The facilities are very comfortable, many of the rooms and cabins have either ocean or garden views, each room or duplex is equipped with phone, TV, bathrobes, beach sandals, mini bar, air condition, a fan - anything one can think of is available. They even pick you up from the airport with two of the only airconditioned buses in town. The open air restaurant and bar by the pool are great, the food outstanding. A real experience.
Unique Quality: The resort is located on the beach at the Bay of Bengal, inside a fishermen village that seems like time stopped there back when. While the resort boasts state of the art facilities - the village looks like it has not changed much in the past 200 years. The resort's gardens and palm trees are magnificient, and the sunsets over the water are beyond description - you got to see it to believe. Highly recommended.
Most importantly: If you look for discos, loud music, noise, movie theatres or shopping - stay away; if you look for true rest and relaxation, authentic sights and authentic people, sea, sun and fresh air - run!!!
Directions: 25 minutes drive south of the Thandwe Airport - the Resort bus picks you up.
