I stayed in Nyaungshwe, but i saw some beautiful hotels constructed on the shores of the lake and in small islands, maybe next time.

THE TEAKWOOD HOTEL: NYAUNGSCHWE GREAT VALUE
NYAUNG SHWE This accomodation is situated in a great position close to everything.(Sorry I don't have a photo of this hotel).The hotel is run by a friendly family and helped with all travel in the area that I chose to do...and were really helpful in suggestions of things to see and do .also the huge areas to sit and chat or read..really easy going atmosphere with exceptionally friendly people...I would stay here anytime that I was in Lake Inle..
Unique Quality: This is an exceptionally clean hotel...The security is very good...The breakfasts are also really good..very helpful with all ones needs .My room was large..seperate ensuite with hot/cold water..fans..all linen supplied...I also exchanged my money here..(exchange rates outside Rangoon vary a lot) your bargaining skills are needed usually for good rates..

Teakwood Guesthouse: Inle Lake Best Value
Best value we found in Inle Lake after reviewing 8 different places. Clean, well managed and dependable. The woman who runs this hotel with her family is a strong minded business woman and a shrewd negotiator. Despite this and even if you don't get a discount it is still the best value for price. We went for 4 days and came back for another week toward the end of our 1-month stay in Burma. Upon arrival she will tour you through different rooms beginning with the most expensive, saving the cheapest for last. Be patient and you will do better. Every single person who comes there tries to negotiate and she knows the game better than most so being patient, smiling and being nice will help. She was renovating the last of her outdated rooms in April 2009 and spends a lot of money maintaining each year. Be aware that, like most places in Burma, electricity is not available 24 hours per day. They run the generator from 6-10pm but expect electricity available about 12-16 hours per day only.
Unique Quality: Nicely decorated, stone walls and fairly clean. Rooms upstairs are nicer and cost more. Rooms downstairs are more simple but cooler and cheaper.

Four Sisters Inn: Homely Stay
Rooms and beds are clean and nice. Towels and blankets are provided. There are hot showers.
Service is good. Very homely feeling as the inn is managed by one family. They can also make arrangements for boat trips to the lake and trekking trips.
Food is a lot and tasty but is generally salty as that's typical of Myanmese food.
Nice and relaxing place to stay in.
Highly recommended.
Unique Quality: Views of paddy field outside the room window.
Meals are priced at " paid as you wish"...interesting and unique...but of course, we paid at least the standard rate of a meal we can find outside.

Inle Lake, Mingala: Inle Lake: very good and cheap
Several rooms in this guesthouse but we took n° 208 on the ground floor. Very spacious with a bathroom, towels and fan.
Cheap at 6 US $ a double
Warning: the hotel is near a big Paya so you'll possible get a wake up call from the monks early in the morning

The Teakwood Guesthouse: Nice teakwood house
Unique Quality: nice teakwood terrasse on the first floor with restaurant - good place to hang out before and after the boat trips/trekking tours. Guesthouse offers a very nice kajak trip through fields of lotus flowers and beautiful spots which the common boat tours do not include.
The owner of the guesthouse though is a little bit too direct with her offers for trekking and dinner.
