The entrance by SirRichard One of the first guesthouses of PP, this is a classical backpackers place. Clean simple rooms for 5 USD, in a good location, near the Psar Thmei (Cemtral market). It is located in a rather poor alley, not very appealing, but I found it safe enough, even at night... They offer too daytrips (Killing Fields, City tours...) and buses to Siem Reap, Saigon... If you arrive by boat from Siem Reap you will find a tout of Narin at the pier, so if you wanna stay here, just follow him, they will transfer you to the guesthouse for free. The facade by SirRichard This was my second night in SR. The first one I arrived late and got into the first place I found. But that day I visited a few places and chose this little Guesthouse by the riverside. It is a clean refurbished pension, with good rooms for 8 USD. It has a wonderful french veranda with viewsto the river, internet access, laundry service, and is in the very centre of town, walking distance to all the restaurants, pubs... perfect for a low budget!!! Bopha Angkor Bedroom by Homanded Bopha Angkor already has a reputation for it's fine dining establishment. The restaurant is FIRST CLASS serving wonderful food and offering some of the finest service. The check in was extremely friendly and took care of all our needs, including booking Aspara Dance show. The hotel is within walking distance to shopping as well as several dance venues. Also, there are convinient Tuk Tuks always awaiting your exit from hotel to offer a ride - Just negotiatie a price first. We truly felt as if we were staying at someone's house rather than a hotel. Would strongly recommend this hotel to our future clients/friends/family.
One of our favorite hotels for ambiance, service and for lending authenticity to surrounding area. The hotel features spacious rooms, very comfortable beds, quiet landscaped courtyards which instantly transfer you to an ancient past. Specially attractive are the stone carvings and fine detail throughout the buildings fascade. The swimming pool was quite charming (salt water) and the total feeling was of being a guest in someone's house...down to the many wonderfully friendly regulars that frequent the place. They are always willing to offer suggestions. The other wonderful thing is the amount of work that the owner does for the Cambodian community both donating money as well as training young Cambodians to do 5 star quality service throughout the hotel, specially the restaurant. This will aide future jobs in the market for them.

RECOMMENDED Cozyna was a 1-year old hotel. Staff are friendly and all of them speak English. Near to eating places and places of interests. Good value for money. We paid USD15 per night per double room with A/C, hot shower, fridge and cable TV. For the balcony room, pay a dollar extra. HOWEVER : A lof of touts and beggars along Sisowath River. I stayed at the lodge which is a traditional Khmer house with a lovely tropical garden at the front. My room was on the upper floor, simply furnished with Khmer furniture, comfortable bed with clean linen, air conditioner, colonial fan, mosquito net, and a safe. The bathroom of my room (the Catherine Deneuve room) had a thatched roof which was inconvenient in that it was hot when the sun was up and a few insects and mosquitoes inevitably made their way in; the bathroom had a shower with hot and cold water, the bathroom was "rustic" and like most of Cambodia the toilets are not designed to cope with large amounts of paper. The upper floor is not suitable for folks who have difficulty climbing stairs, as the stair case is steep and the steps narrow, but there is an attractive terrace at the front of the room which other guests share. I believe that the remainder of the rooms in the traditional house have regular bathroom roofs. There is also a new structure comprising of 20 modern rooms built around a swimming pool.
The pool, though small is clean and well maintained. Continental breakfast is included in the room price and they have a great selection of homemade jams, the croissants are good and their selection of teas is outstanding. The lunch/dinner menu is not extensive but every dish I tried was fair to good and they serve and excellent fish curry. Dinner with a beer cost about $10 (U.S.). They serve wines and spirits, too. The dining tables are very well set for dinner and the dining area is open sided with a thatched roof. Staff for the most part was friendly. Each room has a laundry basket and items left in the morning will be returned beautifully washed and pressed later that afternoon; the charge for laundry is very low and works out to about 50 cents per item on average. They do have an internet service which is very reasonably priced. Across the road is the Wat Thmei also known as the "Killing Field Pagoda" because of its history and collection of skulls and bones remaining from the carnage of the Khmer Rouge era. Despite some minor inconveniences I enjoyed my stay. Hotel is closer than Siem Reap to Angkor Wat, so, you avoid some heavy traffic.

by NeverGrowOld I was recommended ASIA hotel by a tuk tuk driver at coach station when I just arrived Phnom Penh. Thank him! That’s a perfect budget hotel: located at #170, Monivong Blvd, right in the center of this city, 3 minutes walking to post office and 5 minutes to central market. Hotels in Ho Chi Minh City are cheap, but here...much cheaper. Just look at the room in this picture (there is a cable TV with more than 60 channels in this room) and guess its rate. 6 dollars/night. And I emphasize: it’s a hotel, 2 star, maybe, not a guesthouse. You can check with website for more information.

Locally run. Basic rooms available. Either fan/air-con. Rooms tend to be rather dim. Walking distance to Sisowath River (10 minutes) and Central Market (10 minutes). A restaurant below the guesthouse. Stayed for a night on 7 Dec 03. Paid USD$13 for twin room (2 beds) with air-con, hot shower and TV. Airport transfer was arranged for USD$5 from airport to Guesthouse.
Less touts and moto drivers who bug tourists to take their moto for tours, etc. Tourist services available, i.e. purchase of boat tickets, arranging for airport transfer and local tours. BEWARE : Tours recommended by guesthouse are usually rip-offs. For moto, better to DIY. Own impression of guest house : Not very good due to mercenary owners. RECOMMENDED Very clean and professionally run. Rooms are with breakfast. Tourist services available. Not near to city centre though. It is a very quiet and peaceful place, away from the bustling little city centre. We paid USD10 per night per double with fan and attached bathroom. We booked through the internet and they offer discount rates for internet booking.
