The Marchbank Suite: A one room hotel just for you...
A real suite on top of a well-known restaurant in Kampot: Jasmine. One big living-room (with a huge collection of DVDs, and not the usual chuck norris/bruce lee combo but the likes of jim jarmush, chen kaige and the Coen brothers), one big room overlooking the river
the landlady is absolutely lovely, the landlord is a photographer (and a wargame amateur on the look-out for fellow gamers...)
all this for 36$/night
you're not in a hotel though... if the evening has been busy at the restaurant, don't expect your breakfast before 8.30. a great excuse to stay in bed...

Homestay Cafe: New in town
new in town run by the ex owner of the little garden bar, that's good for kampot.A bit quirky ie Khmer design (mind your head when ascending the stairs) otherwise clean comfortable and cosy, fan room with attached bathroom hot water, balcony with nice view of the mountains and river power line included I did say quirky.Wifi connection.Norm will serve breakfast to your room or on the balcony. This place is more home stay then guest house,Norm cooks up a storm in the kitchen and the aromas permeate the air adding flavours to a very nice atmosphere. His staff also cook up fine khmer fair and all at a very reasonable price. I paid $8 per night for my room.
Norm coordinates home stays for those interested and can help with information on volunteering.
Buntha can arrange all your tours Bokor etc and travel requirements.
Two thumbs up
Unique Quality: More reasons to stay here.
Great value, atmosphere and all around friendlyness.Quality food, nice location.
Norm has been involved with some grass roots organisations. His cafe and some private funding help support the TIN CAN KIDS Project. .

Kampot Guest House: Ant breeding ground
On arrival in Kampot we got charged $1.00 for a 2 min tuk-tuk ride to this place highly recommended in the Lonely Planet guide book.
The walls were painted in a sickly yellow (thats the parts that were plastered) there was pink curtains that wouldnt close and tacky 'i love you' on the bed sheets
Even the 1000's of ants sharing the room with us were embrassed to be there.
All for $15.00 a night! They even had the cheek to use a picture of the place next door in the broucher!
Unique Quality: none

Kampot Guest House: Kampot Guest House
Well, me may have been just unlucky, but they did not make our room and our breakfast order took them 45 minutes to make. The other day we ordered a simple pineapple shake, just to learn after 45 minutes that they don't have pineapples anymore....
Anyway let's stick to the facts... rooms come with (USD 10 - 15) or without Aircon (USD 3 - 7) and with TV, but without Fridge.
Unique Quality: Well located in walking distance from the bus stop. Nice patio with Hammocks.

formerly Little Garden Bar Guesthouse: Little Garden Guesthouse is no longer
The Little Garden Bar Guesthouse is no longer and is now called Riverside ?????? I was touted at the bus station with signs saying "Little Garden Bar Guesthouse" and gladly went with this as I had read good reviews about the place. Upon arrival, I wasn't even greeted with a smile or an hello, so my first impressions were a little jaded. But things got steadily worse. My room was okay at 18$ but you would expect that having been completed only last month. What I found most distrubing was the heavy touting every time I walked in or out of the guesthouse. They also were recommending me to other restaurants until I found out that Norm and Barbara, the original owners of the guesthouse, still run the adjoing Little Garden Restaurant where their friendly staff can organise all your tours and travel needs.
So beware, fellow travellers, of anyone touting Little Garden Bar Guesthouse.
Unique Quality: Great view, unfriendly staff.
