Freedom Hotel - Siem Reap
by batgirl1001
A mid-size hotel with a large range of rooms ranging from $20 onward to $60 deluxe rooms.
Has a restaurant, gift shop and convenience store. Swimming pool. Does travel services and tour arrangements.
Friendly staff but less personal. A little far off the main areas in town and perhaps difficult to walk. Need transport. Stayed there for 1 night but it seems that there is a constant power trip. Happened 3 times. Perhaps it is due to the construction nearby as the hotel is expanding.
Mid range

We was picked up from the airport and was almoust forced to stay at this hotel, but it is far to expensive - 20$/night.
We left the next morning The hotel has aircon and a swimmingpool, satelite TV, hot water etc........
Free to Roam Siem Reap

Located in the centre of Siem Reap, had an awesome salt/chlorine pool. Restaurant and internet access on site. Books, postcards and other souvenirs available for sale. Staff friendly.
Clean rooms.
Handy access to the restaurant strip ($3US for three of us via tuk tuk).
Don't plan on having a sleep in though, cause it's very noisy early in the morning. Pool.
Mid-range but clean, big and comfortable

It's located on the busy Route#6 but you will not be able to hear the traffic noise in the rooms. We were given a deluxe room and it was huge! It came with a big jacuzzi tub, a king bed and a single bed! Great for families with kids.
Rooms were clean and well kept. People were friendly and accomodating. Their e-mail response is a bit slow but they do eventually reply your mails. No view out the windows. However, they have a great swimming pool and that makes up for everything, especially after a hot day.
Massage was quite good and not too expensive.
Only grouse, there was not much happening nearby unless you decided to hike the 1km to the central market. No food, no massages, no laundry unless you used the hotel's facilities.
Oh and their safe system is a real joke. You have to try it to believe it.

I cannot comment on the options mentioned by you. But I highly recommend 2 dragons guesthouse. It is a nice, clean and farely reasonable guesthouse. I have pictures and a description here:

We stayed at Bou Savy and it was great close enough to walk to the markets, bars etc. The family that run this guest house are very helpful and friendly. The breakfast is pretty good you can choose from the menu which I liked. Request a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor ground floor rooms are pretty basic but still clean. Air con costs extra. Checkout my pics. They can also organise transport/guides for the temple tours.
Doing laundry in Siem Reap
by icepeachtea
Does anyone know if there are laundromats in Siem Reap that charges by the load or weight rather than by the piece? I'll be heading to Siem Reap with the family and the kids tend to go through clothes like water so I don't really want to chalk up a hefty laundry bill.
Many Thanks!

If you are not in an expensive hotel ( international hotel ) and you are in a local , you can negotiate the laundry with them per weight and not for units and will not be expensive

Pretty much all guesthouses and smaller hotels have a laundry service - charged by weight, as said, rather than the per item rip off. If you happened to stay somewhere not offering this service, you can find plenty of laundry services in the street, and other hotels, for that matter.

Thanks for the advise. I'll be staying at the Freedom Hotel which is near the CCentral Mkt. Since it's not exactly a guesthouse, I don't think laundry there is going to be cheap. Any ideas if there are any laundry shops near there?

Can't help with specific location, but there are plenty of places with signs out. Its not something to worry about - services like this are plentiful.

Siem Reap is so inexpensive that what you pay for a huge load of laundry is still nothing compared to what you would really have to pay for it.... I say dont worry about it, even the tightest of budgets could manage it.
