More about Golden Banana Boutique Resort

A great hideaway in the city

by TripAdvisor Member NTBfromCanada

This place is tucked away down a quite road just on the other side of the river from the market. Is close to everything and yet is a quiet little paradise. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was great, even had a stone bathtub on the balcony. The pool is clean and attractive. It is a little pricey, but after 3 weeks traveling in remote areas of the country on a dirtbike the Golden Banana Resort was worth every riel.Love the place and will stay there again in a heartbeat.

The GB Resort is wonderful. Not sure about the B&B and Hotel...even for the value.

by TripAdvisor Member DCglamper

It's important to note that the hotel is comprised of 3 parts--B&B, Hotel, and Resort--with what seem to be 3 different experiences. First, the good news. I stayed in the Resort and the rooms were clean, large and bug free. (There was one big guy that snuck in but that's life in the tropics! Bug spray was in my room, so no problem.) The pool was lovely and perfect for relaxing. The Banana's best asset is its staff--always friendly and attentive. Basic breakfast is included. Would stay there again. It's pricey but less so than the big hotels, and its location is great--a short walk to Pub Street, etc, so no tuk tuks needed. Quiet at night, though I did hear others talk about barking dogs.

The not-so-good news: they do arrange tours though their office, but travel is nickel and dime. You'd be better off arranging this in town but there is something convenient about doing it through the hotel. Still, it was annoying to see a "sunrise charge" of $5. And prices for drinks at the hotel are very high.

The bad news: if you were thinking of staying in the hotel or B&B, or recommending that others stay there, realize that it will be a very different experience. The B&B had at least 2 rooms that were deemed unacceptable by couples familiar with budget travel through southeast asia. When dealing with management they were treated rudely. Hotel rooms seemed and looked nicer but I heard complaints about mozzies. Even in my own experience it is a bit of a struggle to fix a problem or resolve differences with management. This can happen anywhere, but it stands out compared to other travel in Asia and elsewhere. Bottom line: the Resort offered a great experience, but what I learned about others' experiences at the B&B and Hotel put a few brown spots on the Banana.

Delightful retreat, steps from everything!"

I have stayed at the GB three times, in all parts of it. Once, I stayed for three weeks while doing an informal Khmer study course - organized with tuk tuk drivers and the very helpful GB staff. It is a pleasant, well cared for oasis, in a great location near downtown. It has grown organically over time, with a modest but pleasant b&b, a spiffy boutique hotel and a quite upscale "resort hotel" where I just stayed. The value for money is excellent in all three places. It attracts an interesting following of all sorts of different travelers, which can make staying there fun as well. Highly recommended.

Second time staying at the GB. Location is great. Extremely warm and friendly staff from reception to Tuk Tuk drivers who helped make our trip a magical and memorable one. Send all of my colleagues and they love it. Terrific value for the money.

Must stay at Golden Banana in Siem Reap

by TripAdvisor Member ShanghaiPatty

Amazing - what a great place and a great team running this Resort. Just returned from Siem Reap - which was under the heaviest floods EVER and basically the entire town was under water. Dirk and the team at Golden Banana couldnt have done enough to turn our Horror at this flooded situation into a amazing experience...
Stay in the resort part - our favourite rooms were Teatress, Jasmine, Butterfly and Canabuka (sorry about that spelling) the rooms all look over a central pool and there is a great bar with great food and heaps of pool lounges...
Dirk the Manager is great - and Nat and Bruce Lee behind the bar, Cmen and also the happy smiling other staff.. will turn your Siem Reap experience into a magical one..

They are very connected with all of the TukTuk drivers - As for SUPERIOR!! and know where to go and what to do in Siem Reap..

Great price and great hotel - will definately be the highlight of your trip! - next to the Temples of course!

A perfect retreat

The resort is in a great position within walking distance of the centre of Siem Reap, yet it is quiet peaceful. The staff were kind, efficient and went out of their way to help, providing us with a great driver (Thon) and guide (Chansarun) for Angkor. We were also given a free upgrade to a downstairs suite as we were on honeymoon.
The rooms are very tastefully decorated and comfortable, although I might suggest staying in a downstairs room if you have any mobility problems as the stairs to the upstairs rooms were pretty steep! It didn't cause us any difficulties however.
The salt-water pool is well-maintained and provides a welcome respite after a day at the temples. The resort is a veritable oasis.
Unfortunately, we only had time to stay for 3 nights on this trip, but would have stayed much longer had it been possible.

So much fun...even in a typhoon!

by TripAdvisor Member GZLinz

Dirk and his staff were great. There were 4 of us on our trip, and he and his staff did everything to help make our stay memorable. They arranged to pick us up in tuk-tuks from the boat dock area outside of town. Breakfast was great, but could use a 3rd choice. There is no business center, but they do have WiFi through out the premises. Great wine and drink lists, especially their house specialty--the refreshing and alcohol free iced lime tea. So good. Pool is cute, but I wish they had a hot tub as it would be great after a day of trekking through Angkor Wat.

The best/worst part of our trip was the dreaded typhoon. We were literally stuck in the hotel for a day because of the heavy rains and flooding. I ordered room service, and they came right up--drenched in rain, but managing to keep the food hot and dry! Even though they do not have a business center, Dirk and his team allowed us access to their staff computers so we could contact family and loved ones back home. Although the entire town of Siem Reap was pretty much under water, the Golden Banana remained high and dry-- which made for a nice evening of (a few) bottles of wine.

I wish the typhoon lasted longer so we could have stayed in the GB a whole week!

fantastic hotel, facilities, and service.
